Ministry: Prepare For Hurricane Season

August 20, 2023

“Preparedness is key to safeguarding our families and our island. As we rapidly approach what is historically the most active part of hurricane season for Bermuda, now is the time for proper planning and preparation by everyone to ensure our homes are secure, our supplies are stocked, and we are attentive to the EMO’s guidance,” said Minister of National Security Michael Weeks.

A Government spokesperson said, “With Bermuda in the middle of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season, the Ministry of National Security reminds all residents to stay vigilant and prepared. There is no room for complacency during this potentially volatile time of the year.

Minister Weeks added: “Our Island’s resilience depends on our collective readiness, and we kindly urge everyone to take the necessary precautions.

“I urge residents to not only ensure their own preparedness but also to extend a caring hand to our vulnerable and elderly community members.

“As we fortify our homes and keep an eye on supplies, let us remember the importance of unity and support, checking in on those who might need assistance and offering a helping hand.”

“As the season progresses, reviewing your hurricane supplies and ensuring they are well-stocked and current is crucial.

“Assessing your property’s hurricane readiness, including securing loose items and trimming trees, can significantly minimise potential damage.

“If a tropical system approaches our shores, we ask that you closely follow the Emergency Measures Organisation’s [EMO] guidance.

“The EMO’s advisories play a vital role in safeguarding our community. Also, monitoring the activities of storms through the Bermuda Weather Service at www.weather.bm is an excellent way to stay informed and to prepare for potential storm threats.

“Stay connected and informed by tuning in to the Government Emergency radio station at 100.1 FM, now available for live streaming at the bottom of the gov.bm web portal.

“This valuable resource will keep you updated with the latest information and advisories as they happen.
