Traffic: City Of Hamilton & Sir Burgess 5k Race
The Ministry of Public Works has issued Road Traffic Notices for the Cavendish Road and Spurling Hill in the City of Hamilton from Sunday [May 4], through Monday [June 10] and the “Sir” Stanley Burgess 5k Race scheduled for Sunday [May 5].
Cavendish Road And Spurling Hill In City Of Hamilton
A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works wishes to inform the motoring public that multiple phased lane closures will take place on Cavendish Road and Spurling Hill to accommodate traffic light improvement works.
“The works will commence on Saturday, 4th May 2024 and continue in phases until Monday, 10th June 2024.
“The works shall occur between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm on a daily basis.
“Traffic control will be managed by City of Hamilton representatives with cones, signs and barricades.
“Motorists are advised to follow all detour advisory signs and to use caution when travelling through Cavendish Road and Spurling Hill.
“The detour routes to get in and out of the City of Hamilton are Happy Valley Road, Parson’s Road, Palmetto Road, North Shore Road, St. John’s Road, and Pitts Bay Road.
“The Ministry of Public Works encourages the full cooperation of the public and apologises for any inconvenience that may result.

“Sir” Stanley Burgess Sk Race
“The Ministry of Public Works wishes to inform motorists that the “Sir” Stanley Burgess Sk race will occur on Sunday, May 5th, 2024, between 8:00 am and 9:30 am. The following roads will be affected:
Race Routes:
“The 5k race commences and finishes outside the Clyde Best Center of Excellence Parking Lot on Cedar Bridge Lane. The participants turn left onto Frog Lane and head South towards the roundabout. They traverse around the roundabout and head North on Frog Lane before turning right onto Old Military Road. They turn left onto Parsons Lane and then left onto Palmetto Road. The participants continue to the turnaround on Marsh Folly Road, near Black Watch Pass, and head back along Palmetto Road to the roundabout. They head South along Frog Lane and turn left onto Cedar Bridge Lane to proceed to the finish line.
Traffic Control:
“The race will commence on Sunday, May 5th, 2024, at 8:00 am and is expected to conclude by 9:30 am. There will be signage posted, and race marshals will be present to direct traffic along the route.
Road Closures:
“There will be no road closures for this event. All motorists are expected to use caution and avoid collisions with the race participants. The race will be under the control of Race Marshals. Motorists are asked to follow the instructions given by the Race Marshals to assist with traffic control for this event.
“The Ministry of Public Works wishes to encourage the full cooperation of the motoring public and apologises for any inconvenience that may result. Should there be any questions regarding this event, please direct queries to the attention of the race representative, Christine Joell, at 505-4481.
“In addition, the Bermuda police are hereby authorised to “Close-Off’ streets or portions of streets and authorise parking as the Commissioner of Police decides.”
