Scooter Mart Motor Fest on June 29 will welcome its first overseas exhibitor, Stolztus Logistics, showcasing two 1980s superbikes alongside local vehicles, entertainment, and family activities.

A spokesperson said, “Scooter Mart Motor Fest, presented by Bermuda Charge, will welcome Stolztus Logistics International as its first ever overseas exhibitor on Sunday 29 June. The company will ship two legendary motorcycles for the fast-growing festival on Front Street: a 1985 Yamaha RD500LC, and a 1986 Suzuki RG500 Gamma Walter Wolf Limited Edition, both highly sought-after collector’s items.

“Entry for spectators is free, and the sentimental superbikes are expected to draw a large crowd, who will also enjoy live entertainment, vendors, kids activities and hundreds of locally curated vintage and custom cars and bikes.

Steve Plater will return to Scooter Mart Motor Fest with NW200 race chief Mervyn Whyte and Lawrence Ward on June 29.

“With Stolztus Logistics International making this grand gesture of support to Bermuda’s motoring enthusiasts, the event will proudly showcase immaculately preserved iconic bikes from the 2-stroke era of the 1980s, giving many residents the opportunity to see and hear these machines for the first time. The superbikes are owned by Dean Stolzfus, President and founder of his namesake company, and a well known figure within the Bermuda biking community. It’s an exciting addition for residents and visitors across the island, and signifies a key milestone for Scooter Mart Motor Fest, which is now attracting support on a global scale, as well as receiving special guests from the East Coast, England, and Northern Ireland.”

Superbike superstar and former Isle of Man TT champion Steve Plater, flying in for the festival, announced his excitement about experiencing these sentimental superbike powerhouses, “I’m really looking forward to swinging a leg over them, they were the iconic bikes that everybody wanted when I was a youngster! I have ridden a lot of factory 500s, but I’ve never experienced these two beauties that are coming to Bermuda in June!

“I did have the good fortune to ride some of Barry Sheene’s original superbikes, and also Kenny Roberts Jr’s 1999 RGV500 V4 – he won the Grand Prix three times on that one! However, the last two-stroke I raced was a NSR500 V-twin at the Macau Grand Prix – it didn’t go well, the throttle got stuck wide open in sixth haha! It goes without saying that I didn’t finish that particular race, but it’s a fond memory that I can laugh about now. They were good times, and there really is no substitute for the smell of a two-stroke!”

The 1986 Suzuki RG500 Gamma Walter Wolf Limited Edition

The spokesperson said, “This iconic bike is one of approximately 99 units imported into Canada for the model year. Finished in dark blue with contrasting red and gold graphics, this rare two-stroke square-four-powered machine is equipped with a six-speed transmission and features an aluminium twin-spar frame, four Mikuni carburettors, an aftermarket radiator, triple-disc brakes, Enkei wheels, clip-on handlebars, rearsets, and a side stand.

“The Walter Wolf moniker refers to the legendary German racing driver, Riccardo Patrese, who competed in the World Rally Championship with Suzuki. This bike is expected to draw attention not only for its performance but also for its striking design and historical significance.

The Yamaha RD500LC [RZ500]

“Known as the RZ500 in Canada and Australia, this high-performance two-stroke sports motorcycle was produced between 1984 and 1986. A lighter, detuned version, the RZV500R, was developed for Japan. Strict United States EPA regulations limited its availability there, making it a highly sought-after collector’s item today.

Its presence at Scooter Mart Motor Fest will excite fans of classic and modern motorcycle culture alike, and the sound of the highly tuned engine blasting through the exhaust pipes will rip through the air.
