[Updated] Governor Andrew Murdoch, Minister of National Security Michael Weeks, and Commissioner of Police Darrin Simons are hosting a town hall meeting on gun and gang violence this evening [Sept 29] and you can tune in and watch live below.

Update Sept 30, 5.41pm: Minister of National Security Michael Weeks said, “Last night’s town hall on gun and gang violence was a powerful reminder of both the pain and the resolve within our community. I thank every resident who showed up, spoke out, and demanded action.

“The community made it clear: people want safer streets, better communication, and more than just words. The Government hears you.

“We are moving urgently to:

  • Strengthen policing capacity through increased recruitment, intelligence-led operations, and expanded use of technology.
  • Invest in prevention by expanding youth outreach, mentorship, and support for families affected by violence.
  • Increase transparency through regular reporting and community engagement.

“This is not just a fight for Government or the police, it’s a fight for all of Bermuda. We need parents, mentors, community groups, and every resident to play their part.

“Last night was not the end of the conversation. It was a call to action. Together, we will not allow violence to define our future.”

  1. Payattention says:

A town hall meeting on gun and gang violence yet the Gang Violence Reduction Team leader sat in the audience and had absolutely nothing to add to the conversation, nothing to confirm how the tax payers over half a million dollars is helping this crisis we’re in. How was he not a part of the panel?? Where are the reports outlining the impact of the programme? Did no one else notice his deafening silence? Unfortunately, another futile exercise.

  2. Lion Paw says:

This is great but how about affordable therapy to family members effected by this antisocial behaviour. Bermuda your people are hurting angry and depressed in ways they have never experienced.

  3. Joe Bloggs says:

More talk, still no serious action.

  4. Hilarious says:

How about mobilizing the Regiment to provide support to the overbloated BPS?

  5. Mandy says:

This was an invaluable forum of our community (had I not been at work, would have attended, I give thanks), represented and key community stakeholders identified here, in the missing links to action for our underrepresented, disparaged, vulnerable villagers. Hoping the bells went off to reach out for one another (we thank you who represented those of us unable to physically attend), in what we know is imperative in the next steps to connect our key village leaders to our answers. The great part is that we already were doing it prior to desegregation, amongst our beloveds in this isle. Shall we return to each other or continue to lead our own so-called comfortable singular lives? Our choice…..
….calling all who remember who they are and whose shoulders we stand upon to rise up from our comfortable slumber and step forward; our nation awaits us!
