Terryn Fray Eyes Net Run-Rate Boost
Terryn Fray, the Bermuda cricket captain, has stressed the importance of net run-rate before his side’s second match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Sub-Regional Qualifier against Panama tomorrow [June 25].
Bermuda made a winning start to their campaign as they look to secure the Group A qualifying berth, defeating Belize by ten wickets on Monday.
However, with their opening match against the Bahamas abandoned because of rain on Sunday, Fray knows net run-rate could prove decisive in determining the group winner.
Net run-rate is calculated as the average runs scored per over minus the average runs conceded per over across all matches.
“We have a nice strong net run-rate [from the Belize win] and want to carry that mindset and approach into the Panama match,” Fray told Bernews.
“We expect the Bahamas to win all their remaining matches, which means we must also win ours and have a more dominant net run-rate.”
Fray said his side will not take Panama lightly. The teams meet at the North Field, National Sport Centre, at 10.30am.
“We back our skills and our players,” he said. “We need to dominate against Panama to put ourselves in the driver’s seat heading into the final match [against Brazil] on Saturday.
“We’re expecting a more competitive game against Panama [than Belize] and have formulated a plan that we will look to execute.”
Head coach Cal Waldron said he expected his players to be refreshed and ready for the challenge.
“We’ve had two days’ rest [since defeating Belize] and have revisited our strategies and game plans,” he said.
“The players understand the mission and will look to build on the win against Belize when we face Panama.”
