Jediah Cumbermack On Round Seven Races
Motorcycle racer Jediah Cumbermack competed in round seven of the 1pMobile National Junior Sportbike Championship at Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire at the weekend.
The Bermudian qualified seventeenth and finished fourteenth in race one but did not finish the second race after a collision.
Cumbermack, who races for Team ROKiT Rookies, said: “My first time racing at Thruxton was a weekend I won’t forget. From the moment I went out for FP1, I immediately fell in love with the circuit.
“It’s fast, technical, and challenging, and I knew straight away that it was going to be a track I really enjoyed.
“The main challenge for me throughout the weekend was finding the right gearing and getting everything dialled in.
“For Race 1, I unfortunately had to start from the back of the grid after my tyre sticker melted off the tyre in qualifying.
“Despite that setback, I got a decent start and managed to work my way through the field to salvage a P14 finish.
“It wasn’t the result I was hoping for, but it gave me valuable experience and something to build on for the second race.”
Cumbermack then turned his attention to his second race, where he made a strong start before moving into the top ten.
“Going into Race 2, I was ready to fight,” he said. “Starting from P12, I made a strong start and worked my way up to P9 within the first few laps.
“I made a mistake on one of the laps and dropped back behind the lead group.
“I regrouped, settled back in, and managed to fight my way back to P11. I was still within the lead group and could see the riders fighting for the win ahead of me, so I knew there was still a chance to move further forward.”
However, his hopes of a strong finish ended at the final chicane after he was involved in a collision.
“Unfortunately, my bad luck wasn’t finished,” Cumbermack said. “Going into the final chicane, I clipped another rider after they made a mistake, which forced me to sit out the remainder of the race.
“It was a disappointing way to end the weekend, especially knowing I had the pace to fight with the front group, but there were plenty of positives to take away.”
Despite the retirement, Cumbermack said he was encouraged by his pace and the experience gained from his first weekend at Thruxton.
“Overall, my first weekend at Thruxton was a huge learning experience, and I’m excited to come back stronger,” he added.
“I loved the circuit, found some good pace, and showed that I have the speed to run with the lead group.
“A massive thank you to my team and my sponsors for making this weekend possible and for their continued support.
“And, as always, a huge thank you to my mum for supporting me from home. I couldn’t do any of this without you all!”
Cumbermack is sponsored by Bison Rokit Rookies, Aries Sport Centre, the Finn Wardman Scholarship, Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Association and Rokit Off.
