Student Helper: Small Fire At Coral Beach

11 year old Benjamin Furqan of Somersfield Academy chose to spend a day on work release with the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service, as he said he “thought it would be exciting”. We caught up with Benjamin at the Coral Beach & Tennis Club on South Shore in Paget this afternoon [June 28] where the Fire Service had recently arrived in response to a call reporting a structural fire. Lieutenant Colin Swan said they receved the call at 12:36pm and arrived at 12:44pm. They discovered the issue in a room containing electrical equipment, contained the fire and vented the area using a smoke extractor. The good news is there were no injuries, and no substantial damage to the property.
Benjamin, who for obvious safety reasons didn’t participate in the actual initial response by firefighters, is shown below assisting the firefighters in repacking their hoses.
