Two Men Shot, 24-Year-Old Killed

January 8, 2012

[Updated - one victim confirmed dead] At approximately 9pm this evening [Jan.8] there was a shooting in the Glebe Road area of Pembroke. Early unofficial reports indicate two people were injured in this incident, the first confirmed shooting in 2012.

At this time, there is a heavy police presence in the area starting to secure the crime scene. Neighbours alerted by the shots are milling around the area. Details are limited at this early juncture, however we will update with additional information as able.

Update 9.29pm: The Police have now blocked the road off and are restricting access to the northern section of Glebe Road by Yardie Kitchen. Unofficial reports indicate that at least 6 shots were fired.

Update 9.39pm: Unofficial reports indicate that the victims were transported to hospital via private vehicles, and also indicate the suspect[s] may have entered a residence and fired.

Update 9.41pm: Police confirm that there was a firearm incident in the area, and we expect to receive additional details from them shortly.

Update 9.58pm: Police have now fully secured the scene, and can be seen searching the area. The amount of bystanders has decreased, following the initial few minutes which saw many area residents coming out on the streets after the gunshots were heard.

Update 10.29pm: The Police Forensic Unit has arrived on the scene.

Update 10.32pm: In what tends to be the standard procedure when shooting victims are brought in, the hospital has a police presence, with at least two marked cars and four uniformed officers visible outside.

Update 10.51pm: Bernews has been made to understand at least one victim has been very seriously wounded, and that the situation is extremely dire.

Update 11.08pm: Police confirm one shooting victim has died. Assistant Commissioner David Mirfield said that two 24-year-old men were shot, one fatally, while the other man’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

When asked about unofficial reports that two men on a bike rode through and ran into a residence and opened fire, Mr Mirfield said he could not confirm that. He also declined to confirm if the incident is being treated as gang related. The video of the statement is below.

Update 12:00am: The scene is now considerably quieter, although Police continue to block the road and remain on scene investigating. Audio above switched to video.

Update 12.48am: Police continue to monitor both the crime scene, as well as maintain a visible presence outside the hospital, where a number of young people had gathered earlier this evening after hearing of their friends being shot.

Update 5.30am: The police are no longer blocking the road, and traffic is flowing freely. However a police car remains stationed outside what is unofficially understood to be a residence where the shooting may have taken place.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 247-1079, or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.

Update 3pm: The police identified the murder victim as 24-year-old Stefan Burgess, and said two men have been arrested in connection. Details here.

  14. Reputation says:

I have an idea. Let’s not report these incidents of violence. Having them as the first headline of every news site and medium can only hurt our Island’s reputation. This is only gang violence, it should not be newsworthy.

    • How much more says:

It shouldnt but these fools dont realise that these people want us to kill ourselves, and its true is destroying the Islands reputation. Tourism Hey!!!!!! These better realise that they are messing with our economy in a big. Business thrived in bermuda because of the islands beauty and hospitality. But dont worry everybody was scared when Dr brown was talking bout bringing in a Team. NOW WATCH.

    • GRIZZ says:

@Reputation….your comments were really insensitive. “This is only gang violence, it should not be newsworthy.” THAT IS SOMEONE’S CHILD YOU ARE SPEAKING ABOUT!! IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT YOUR OPINION OF THE SITUATION IS, THE FACT IS A YOUNG MAN IS DEAD AND YOU DON’T THINK THAT IS NEWSWORTHY? Shame on you for not being sensitive to someone elses pain. I pray that his family finds strength to make it through this and I pray that people like you would put yourself in someone else’s shoes before you make those type of comments.

  15. How much more says:

How much more of this does the rest of this Island have to take. I say get rid of them. This ignorance dont happen nowhere else in the world. How many times do you want to lock them up and release them via the PAROLE BOARD, That supposedly doesn’t even know who they are releasing. These guys are destroying this Island. How much more!!!!!!!! eradicate them.

  16. Country Chick says:

This is ridiculus I think that they should round all these guys up and put them on a island and let them have duels. Seriously speaking it is time for the country to have a Swat Team on duty all through the island and shoot on sight. Yes, people will get angry when their out of control, uneducated, disrespectful, uncivilized, crack head children get killed by the police. The Island of Bermuda will be a better place. Right now they are ruining this island my home.

  17. Marc G. Daniels says:

I am truly becoming appalled with the people that live in this tiny island. I am not only talking about the thugs which are causing the mayhem on this island, and which make the headlines; but also many of you bloggers on this site (and the RG) who seem to act just as cowardly as the dark tinted visor gunman that commit such acts with your pseudonyms. Some of your comments are truly hurtful and disgusting. If someone has been shot, there are family members who are suffering; let alone the individuals who are being treated for their injuries. I feel that if you have something to say, try using your real name, maybe then we can have some positive discussion because we would think before we type. Why be afraid to speak your name if you feel you are right? It’s not like it was only a couple of decades ago when you could be denied a mortgage or bank loan if you aligned yourself with a particular political party or the other. So give thanks for progress.

Glebe Road has always been one of the most disenfranchised neighborhoods in Bermuda. However, notwithstanding this point, some of you bloggers make posts which lack human compassion. Hard working families live in this neighborhood. Children live and play in this neighborhood. To say that one does not even “care anymore”; “it’s getting boring”; or “kill or be killed” is simply sickening.

On a slightly different note, but of equal measure, there have been a series of articles posted on both this site and the RG in recent weeks, whereby bloggers which are neither thought provoking nor which stimulate healthy debate have quite literally spewed verbal diarrhea towards one another, lacking substance and merit. The majority of comments I see express vile hatred from one group to another. No political party can save the island from the demise of our people’s social conscience. Rather, a healthy community instilled with true family/community values of love and harmony is the only answer.

However, as appears to be the case recently, when supposedly mature adults engage in name calling and express hatred (or mere disregard) towards one another, like spoiled children in a sand box, how can we expect the less educated or less well-off individuals to maintain some high standard of morality, respect and tolerance that we, the supposed positive members of society cannot muster towards one another?

Whether you are Bermudian or not, black, white, young, or old, stand up to make our island a better place and change its current trajectory. You can begin with compassionate dialogue. I am almost certain that most of the commentators on these sites have no personal connection to the people that are involved in the cross fire or feel the true effects of it and therefore all these headlines are nothing more than “stories” to you which have no real affect on your lives. Many of you do not hear any gun shots in your neighborhoods, or around your place of business. Although this crime is plaguing our country it does not have a direct effect on all members of our society. I guess that’s why we still see so many hurtful comments. I can only pray that these “stories” do not come to a neighborhood near you. So please, do not simply sit behind a computer and fire shots like some of these lost souls are doing without giving a real thought about the consequences. For every action there is a reaction. It’s simple physics.

    • Ryan says:

I must say, I enjoyed reading this comment; well-written and pointed, too. I too have developed a particular quandary with many of the so-called ‘bloggers’ who seem to virtually live on these news sites. It is they who feel it pertinent to relay the same trite verbiage on practically every single news story. I’m sure these people know who exactly who they are.

As a result, I’ve begun not to even bother to read many of the comments; I can’t be bothered to waste my time!

More to the point, though, I thank you, Marc, for taking the time to so eloquently address these individuals; of course, as stubborn as they seem, your words may not have as much effect as you’d like, but at least your message came across loud and clear.

    • Keeping it 100!! says:

Amen!! It stead of dealing with the problem and standing up against this violence many have taken the position to eradicate people, human beings to solve these problems. They are no better than these thugs that would have their day in hell. Who did MLK eradicate? Cowards are not the ones with guns. Cowards are the persons that do not use any platform and every opportunity to speak up aginst the works of eveil. A coward stands for nothing. Most people commenting with ignorance are the real cowards. Get some testicular fortitude and speak up aginst this ‘boring’ news.

      • How much more says:

Excuse me, when people act like human being than you’ll get treated like human beings, Robbing, Stabbing, shooting. and then I do feel sorry for the ones that are not instigating this ignorance and just maybe defending themselves. some of these guys are just rotten. David and Golliath. The city of Soddem and gomorrah, THe flood etc. Do i need go on. In all the stories Human Beings DIED, and do you know why so that the world could be a better place.

    • Diallo V. Rabain says:

Marc…Your comments are on point and speak directly to those out there who find some sort of solace and entertainment in knowing that they can stand at arm’s length and comment only while at the same time requesting everyone else to “stand up” and be accountable. Based on BBM, Text and whispered rumours and half-truths we are so quick to feel the need to be recognized as the person who knows what happened, but refuse to go further.

We spend too much time and energy expecting others to find that magic answer when the answer lies within us as a community to effect change. I will also proclaim that we can fix this problem ourselves once we are willing to stand up and be counted. Stand up to that relative, friend or acquaintance you know is doing wrong and let them know, enough is enough.

Unfortunately, the majority of us are only willing to do just enough to survive and don’t have the testicular fortitude to fight to improve ourselves or our community. Never once realizing that by doing so, you are a part of the problem.

    • Erin says:

      Well said Mr. Daniels

    • Jamel Smith says:

YOUR JOKING right THEN YOU GO COURT AND DEFEND YOUR CLIENT WHO IS AS GUILTY AS SIN AND YOU DAM KNOW IT! MARC TAKE A LESSON FROM THE OTHER LAWYERS AND SHUT UP. WHAT A HYPOCRITE YOU ARE.

YOU SPEAK OF THE DEVILS THEN YOU GET THEM OFF IN COURT JUST TO MAKE $$$$$.

      • Sarah says:

How do you know they are guilt Jamel? Were you there? Have you ever been in the wrong place at the wrong time or profiled?

      • still proud to be Bermudian says:

        You are so right Jamel

      • Truth Spoken says:

Well Said Jamel Smith as I do understand some of what Marc is saying he will still do and defend these people and to me that is a HYPOCRITE!!!!

    • Aliases Are Helpful says:

Yes, I am scared to say my name. People have very strong prejudice here. No one wants to be abused (verbally or physically for their views). Better to do it under a veil. Sometimes the truth hurts and sometimes people are mean. Freedom of speech means that you can say what you want. NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO NOT BE OFFENDED. Stop being cry-babies.

    • Sarah says:

AMEN!!! A MAN OF THE LAW AND MAN OF PURE THOUGHT.

      AMEN.

    • Katrina M Smith says:

I hope that people take true heed to what you have written it was well said and something that a lot of these bloggers needed to hear!!! WAKE UP AND PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE!!!

    • Tommy Chong says:

“A man cannot be remorseful for what he has not done.” Didn’t you say this defending your client? So, how can you expect remorse from bloggers who are not involved in the crime. I don’t agree with what is said “care anymore”; “it’s getting boring”; or “kill or be killed” but these are the desensitize opinions of individuals who have lost hope in Bermuda’s faulty justice system. If you want to become a judge go for it & help the desensitize make sense of what’s going on & why its become so regular. In the meantime why don’t you do your job & defend not point fingers because someone has an opinion. Your comment is hypocritical based on who you are & what you have said but your the one who choses to remain un-anonymous so enjoy the spotlight & critique.

    • skeptical says:

Did the PLP go into these areas that are impoverished as you say and see what can be done to help everyone in there? Since the party is running the line that national debt was necessary to provide for those who hadn’t been provided for before, did the government officials meet with residents in these areas to see what could be done, what financial assistance was needed, what educational and recreational opportunities were needed to change the area once and for all?

    • Marky D. thanks for making sense! i was with his mom the last time she saw her son alive happy and well and i can tell y’all its not boring the her!!!! just trying to cope!
      One love

    • Gillian Anderson says:

Best post I’ve EVER read on here. So beautifully put and I agree with everything you say.

  18. Real says:

Well, Well,Well!!!!! Mr.Daniels talks and then shows up in court with the defendant who he knows is guilty as sin. Looks for something in the case to cause doubt and get the defendant off. How’s that for Feeling sorry for the family members . Although you are right in what you say. Shut Up because you and other people that get these thugs off when you know they are guilty as sin are just as guilty for whats going on.

    • Reputation says:

Remember that it is always better to let a guilty man walk free than to convict an innocent man.

This is such sad news. R.I.P young man and to his mother, sister and daughter may God keep you strong. I will be praying for you as I leave God to do the rest.

    • wondering says:

Is his father dead? I notice his father has been omitted

      • CYGNET says:

@ Wondering. Does it matter if his father is dead or if he is a deadbeat father? A young man has been shot dead and another injured. Think before you write.

Condolences to the young man’s family and prayers for the other young man who was shot.

  20. Mr.Curious says:

These really are some serious times, its sad when here in a island like Bermuda, where everyone is basicly related(one-way)or-the-other)that this gang violence has gotten way outta hand,i mean how hard is it too really deal with this foolishness and slove it,discourage it stamp it out?We have a gun squad here in our island what really is there role??is it too harrass, and bother hard working people with bogus random”routine-checks”or is too curb, solve deal with this soulotion???Bermuda, isnt that big,and we know alla this is”gang-related”Parkside vs 42nd”etc is it really that hard for police or this so called”GUN SQUAD”too target these same areas and the “alledged”members”that these gangs in question call there”hood”and search the homes, sourounding areas and what not until guns are found,or untill these cowardly punks realize that the”police”are serious, what do they really have all these guns for for show? No,iam not saying too go out as a police officer and shoot innocent rendom people iam saying that when excercising there no gang/firearms they have the right too obtain infomation by force which in my oppion needs too be done because shit is really out of hand just my veiw on alla this senseless shit,in any event if the name of the dead person is true,my heart, and prayers go out too his family its so sad that another black man is gunned down leaving behind a little child. BPS its time too take charge now and get our island back, because enough is enough…

    • Harmony says:

I’m with you on them going in by force, but just like you say this, the mothers and relatives will be the first to complain about there house being taken over and searched and still the mentality of its not my child. Then everyone is gonna cry human right bs all over again!!
I’m all for what you are saying but i feel sorry for BPS because they are damned if they do and damned if they don’t!

      • wondering says:

this and all of the other blogspots almost always mention MOTHERS. I HATE this removal of the FATHERS. Does Bermuda not have any FATHERS or did we all get born by immaculate conception. Stop forgetting about the fathers. the perpetrators of these heinous crimes DO in ALOT of cases come from fully functional households.

      • Bryan says:

        Yup!

    • Face Palm says:

It boggles my mind how many people I see still don’t know the difference between to and too. Most are our young people. How can we expect our youth to better themselves if they can read or write correctly.

      • SJ Taylor says:

what about “there” and “their” didn’t you notice that as well?

        • J Reynolds says:

Not to mention “your” and “you’re”…..

Was in the Shopping Centre grocery store on Victoria this week and they have a nice printed sign that reads “Smile, Your on camera” in regard to their security cameras. I guess they want the target demographic to be able to understand.

      • Legal Reasons? says:

Your comment is really misplaced in this debate.

But you know what boggles me… people with poor grammar like yourself playing spelling-police.

Your text should read “… if they CAN’T read…”.

So next time, just sh*t up!

      • baffled says:

Face Palm, it should read “can’t” and not “can”. Just saying!!!!!!!

R.I.P. Bermuda, Once Paradise & now Hell :(

    • Ryan says:

Oh, please—live elsewhere, why don’t you?! Honestly, you’re going to let an ignorant minority compel you to make such a statement as that? This, more than anything, is the attitude and sort of comment that will solve nothing in Bermuda, for we cannot begin to fix these problems if even we do not believe we have the power to do so.

Never, ever insinuate that Bermuda is dead—the justly concerned Bermudians who have commented before you are sure proof of the opposite.

      • sandgrownan says:

Bermuda may not be dead, but it’s dying.

        • SJ Taylor says:

The way things seem to be here in Bermuda is very much like the saying that “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. If you have travelled outside of Bermuda at all you must be able to see that we are still quite unique even if we are not EXACTLY the same as we used to be. So much focus is on the negative that we can not see that Bermuda has maintained many of her wonderful qualities. I think it’s all in how you choose to view it; again very much like beauty and whose eyes are taking it in. One person’s hell could be another’s day in paradise as much as the death of one thing can bring a new and better thing into fruition.

  22. J Reynolds says:

My concern is for the law abiding citizens in the Glebe Road area who work hard and have properly raised their children. Now as they should be entering the time of life to build up savings and further invest in one’s home, these hoodlums keep destroying their ability to live safely, their peace of mind, and the value of their properties. And the businesses like Yardie Kitchen that continue to have their livelihood slowly strangled as fewer and fewer people dare to venture to their establishments. Art Mel’s was literally the first place I was taken when I first came to the island 6 years ago. I’ve met law abiding, job holding individuals who live in that area. There was a time when I routinely gave people lifts home to the area. But I haven’t done so for months and the last time I went to Art Mel’s years ago, I decided to leave because of several surly patrons who made me very uncomfortable. The tragedy is that these shootings and these hoodlums are slowing strangling the good, law abiding people that remain in the area.

To the households in the area that are harboring, coddling, and sharing in the criminal proceeds of their hoodlum sons, brothers, nephews, cousins and baby daddys, shame on you! Shame on you!! As a black man who lived through the racism and economic limits of the 1960′s and 70′s, I am ashamed of this small minority of young black males who have decided to become hoodlums and parasites. One thing for certain is, they are not men.

  23. Marc G. Daniels says:

Thank you for acknowledging that my comments made sense, despite your REAL fear to publish your name and engage in a healthy discussion. How REAL is that? I am an officer of the Court who plays a part in seeking justice. I do not “know” something which I did not see, hear, or experience. I can only be the voice of my client. Where evidence is overwhelming, I would encourage my client to plea his or her guilt. However, not all cases are so clear cut. I would recommend that you first learn how our justice system works, and then ask how to improve it where you see fault. Until you have some REAL understanding, you should hope that you never find yourself accused of something which may either be the result of a mistake or some misinformation. Of course, not every client of mine is innocent, but my professional duty is to fight earnestly for those who maintain their innocence in accordance with our constitutional rights. It is for the jury to decide where an individual’s fate truly lies. I do not seek to get my clients off; all I seek to do is ensure a fair trial process and to articulate my client’s instructions. In that regard, you are entitled to your opinion. But as a result of my proximity to some guilty individuals, I have also had the opportunity and blessing of trying to make a difference in their personal lives in the hope of helping them to become better human beings.

    • wondering says:

what you have said is exactly your job but your conscience must hurt “knowing” some of the things that people (clients) will have told you. (I am talking the human nature type of “knowing” – not the legal mumbo jumbo or politically correct version of “knowing”). more power to men and women who serve in your capacity

      • also wondering says:

There is no such thing as a 6th Sense. No one really knows until they are shown empirical evidence. Our senses can be fooled. The legal mumbo jumbo as you call it is a very logical way of looking at things imperfect as it may be. Even though at times it can seem cold and impersonal, it is still the best way. Feelings of “knowing” is what killed many “witches” back in the day.

R.I.P. to all the Fallen Soldiers…

Wat government dnt realize is dat dey bs-ing every1 by makin senseless laws wen they hav more important issues at hand. Its about dey take control of this island. I m tired of this bs. No1 Shuld hav to go thru this. Think bout all of d innocent ppl dat yu r hurt ( oh I forgot. Y’all dnt hav a heart. Bt I surely knw dis crap is eatin at yu every night.) I m tired of dis bs. N all yu ppl dat ain’t speaking up or r scarier of dese p$$sies need to start speaking up. I m serzly tired of hearin dis bs ova n ova again.
Grow the f$#k up and handle ya sh%t hw real men wuld. Most of yu dnt really realize hw much it hurts othas until d sh&t hits. We need to b there for one another n stand up against the shootings and let these shooters know that we ain’t taking this crap no more.

    • J Reynolds says:

What fallen soldiers? I’ll wait to see who these folks were that were shot before handing out any R.I.P.’s to them. If these are innocent citizens shot by thugs for no reason or by mistake as several killings appear to have been, then yes R.I.P. But I won’t use the gang imagery of “fallen soldiers” to describe law abiding citizens killed by thugs!

Now if the shooting victims were up to their eyeballs in drug dealing and criminal activities, then I think they have chosen their own fate to rest in hell. And if so, they are not soldiers, they are parasites preying upon the community, ruining lives and sometimes killing people. Fallen cowards is more like it.

      • saddened bermudian says:

Yu knw wat… Um tired of all d bs. If yu knew them then yes they wuld b a fallen soldier to yu. The ones that I knew were family first ppl n as I see frm the rest that they ate also family first before anything. Damn I can’t stand yu judgers. Yu ain’t the Lord so if to sum they are soldiers n if they ain’t to yu den dnt comment. Also, yu all must nt knw way gangs r. First of all, wat we hav in Bermuda are certainly nt gangs. If yu knew any of the ppl then yu would say the same. Um tired of yu idiots orryin bout every lil thing sum1 says n does. Worry bout yaself.

To me and othas these individuals are our fallen soldiers n if yu dnt feel that way den dnt say sh%t. Also, if we want to tell the rest in peace, sleep in paradise, rest in paradise, etc. den so b it. Dnt knock us for it. No1 knws d reasons for d senseless shootings n we probably neva will.

Bermuda needs to cum togetha as one lyk nw. I m tired of all this.

that was well said Marc, i just had the exact same conversation about family and community being the only answer to this craziness, not politics or leaving it all to police.. and like you i was simply disgusted at reading the comments posted, they are senseless, cold, ignorant, and quite stupid to be honest. a clear indication of why we have some of the social problems we do. it was really refreshing that this message was the one at the bottom of the post… we need to find our compassion, love of self and family, pride in our community, and peace of mind and spirit to end this madness.

  26. Shamar (NYC) says:

I’m sick and tired of hearing about these shootings… Things are only getting worse as the years go on… I remember when I use to travel and people would ask “Where are you from”.. Every single time I told them Bermuda. They would respond with “wow, such a beautiful island” or “I’ve always wanted to travel there”…. Now all I get is “the island with all the shootings.. so sad” “that beautiful island with so much potential but yet so much violence and ignorance”

  27. She has to go says:

Well said Marc! Ps a lawyer does not get anyone off he or she represents persons using the
    LAw as a tool.

  28. yup says:

And they wonder how news spreads or why police reports are poorly written. If you see the First Picture , You see a Police Officer on His Cell Phone.. Real Professional Huh ???

    • Ryan says:

I have never actually had an issue with the quality of writing in any of the police reports I have read; they are clear and succint, and practically always free of grammar and/or writing errors.

Care to point me to an example of a poorly-written report? Or are you simply creating a problem where there is none?

      • yup says:

Well , Many Court Cases are all Jacked up and Criminals have been getting off due to the fact that the Police Reports have not been suffice . They always say that it’s not the Justice System . The courts can only go by the Police Reports. Rest My case .. So don’t talk about creating problems.

        • Seriously? says:

Sufficient, not suffice. Seems you are no further ahead than those you point the finger at…..

    • Arthur - Atlanta says:

So I guess you want everything relating to the crime scene put over the radio knowing that there are police scanners in the hands of civilians?
There was numerous times that we had to use job issued cell phone during emergencies incidents on the island.
This is the future and cell phones are a necessary piece of equipment for some emergency workers.

      • James s says:

Police radios are encrypted so a scanner will serve no purpose.

    • Big D says:

Yup it is clear that you are living in another time zone telephones are a mode of communication by people. How do the police at murder scenes communicate with their supervisors “cellphones”.
So stop being silly in your writings. Like Marc said we need to stop pulling down with negative comments. We need support our police, the families of victims and the families of the perpetrators.

    • CYGNET says:

@ Yup. Police officers on their phones at crime scenes are talking to either senior officers or other areas in the BPS to assist with the crime scene. They could be calling to ask for assistance with family member, neigbours or children who witnessed and or heard gunshots. Until one has experienced such a situation one doesn’t understand.

    • Evie says:

Really?? Can you see who he is correspoonding with too? Could it be possible that he is liasing with someone in regard to the crime. You don’t know so….why create a problem where there is none?

  29. amen says:

Meanwhile elsewhere on the island your police officers are getting the REAL criminals-people with an ipod or cellphone sitting on their lap while driving! Priorities I tell ya! Time to declare a national emergency….oh right catching REAL criminals doesn’t profit the government like $500 tickets for tint, seat belts and phones/ipods.

Hey on the bright side this was create some good discussion for the cubicle gossip queens tomorrow.

  30. mixitup says:

I’m begining to get very scared for my country, the place we all use to brag to our overseas friends about and knew that we lived in a place that had to be God’s Gift. I’m scared for the generations coming up including my small family members who in 10 years will not know how phenomenal this Island was. We have to get this right people, we need to sing from the mountain tops (in our case it’s called the Peak) that good will never be defeated by evil!! Sing it Loud until their ears hurt!! Good will prevail!

  31. percival says:

yup is an idiot….dont yuh think they have to communicate yuh dumb A$$

  32. MYSTERY LADY says:

r.i.p mom and family/friends keep storng God will watch over u all

  33. JUST READ says:

It’s something. I see everyone’s comments regarding the shooting issues we have in Bermuda but our hopes, dreams, and solutions will only stay on Facebook. Too much talk and not enough action from us.

We post our comments on “FACEBOOK” and someone clicks a “Like” button then get excited because someone likes our comments. How about we “Like” not be afraid to speak out, put pressure on our Government and opposition (have them work together instead of wasting time pointing fingers) so that we can see results.

Government you have suggested that you need our help but please be clear on what you want us to do. It feels like we are fighting with bows and arrows against weapons of mass destruction here.

Also to the people, Government cannot do this alone so we need to speak up and take action. However, Bermuda government as leaders let us know what you would like us to do as a people to stop this for our children’s sake.

Otherwise, you will continue to see more and more Bermudians seeking another place to settle overseas whilst the violence continues on. We no longer wish for our kids to grow up on this tiny island filled with criminal activity. The murders are too close for comfort.

We can dramatically reduce and eliminate the violence but I think the people at the very very top (above Government) do not think it’s bad enough so they will allow the violence to continue on it’s journey (that’s just my opinion not fact).

We already know who’s who so remove the chiefs and the Indians would not know what to do. A car cannot run without an engine and a bird cannot fly without its wings.

Force the chiefs to convert and instead of them masterminding deadly attacks have them mastermind positive ventures to help Bermuda in a positive way. Also, the converted leaders need to filter their new positive ways to the young and heartless also involved. Otherwise we will have a revolving door of new thug mentality youth entering.

Government, we also need a combination of programs that attract and retain the attention of the youth to keep them occupied. To be perfectly honest this island is extremely boring for the youth.

A lot of them are not fortunate to travel off island and get a peace of mind. Therefore, we need programs on island and not just promote cricket and football.

In Bermuda, you grow up thinking…okay I go to school, get a career as an accountant, lawyer, or police officer and maybe play football and cricket. The world is too large and the possibilities are far too endless to limit our Bermudian people.

Too much potential is being wasted. We need to invest and implement programs and then promote it in our schools and communo ities.

One last thing, as parents we should be the ones to blame first because we know that our children our doing wrong but too afraid to stand up. If you need help ask someone for help. A lot of us just need guidance and that’s understandable.

    • star man says:

We need to form a big posse of ‘Guardian Angels’ and patrol the gang areas every night. BTW, boredom is an attitude problem.

  34. BOB S says:

I’m very concerned with the (cold and callous) comments posted by , I would assume, grown law abiding persons using this medium. I think u all forget that u also have family whom I assume u love and cherish. Someone , as a result of these gang wars/gun violence, must pick up the pieces as their whole world has changed. They’ve lost a family member whom they will NEVER see again. I would strongly suggest – if u don’t have anything positive to say, or , a solution to the on-going problem, just don’t say anything. THere’s an old saying “If you’re not a part of the solution, then you’re a part of the PROBLEM”.None whom walk the face of this Earth is perfect, there-fore LET HE THAT IS WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE!!! Please, this negative attitude MUST STOP NOW.

  35. Talk Is Cheap says:

TALK TALK TALK…STOP Tweetin . STOP Posting On FB . Try Actually Doing Something About It!!!!!!!!

    • Tommy Chong says:

Would love to but vigilantism and weapons of mass protection are illegal in Bermuda.

  36. Frederica says:

Another life taken. Its just so painful and sad that these shootings seem to be never ending. For those who said this news is getting boring, you all are better off not leaving comments on “this type of news.” Your comments are just ignorant as hell. When will “this news” become exciting to you? When someone from your family or a friend of yours get shot?! Family or no family, friend or no friend “this news” will always sadden me because behind all this violence there is a family hurting. Grow up or shut up please and thanks.

  37. Glenda R. says:

A bermudian living aboard: I’ll always be proud of BERMUDA ! So sorry to read of the shooting and offer condolence to families and friends.
Its also sad to read comments without compassion for these families and bermuda. I appreciate reading Marc, Kareem and other postive remarks. Maybe its time we returned to ” OLD BERMUDA ” ways ! I was taught that if I disrespect myself in public is as bad as shaming my family…What happen?

  38. Odds and Ends says:

Well at least we made it one week into 2012 before the first murder……

Unfortunately judging from the past this is likely to set off at least one or two rounds of tit for tat retaliation. I guess the next attack will be in Parkside….. My sympathies for those who can not avoid the area.

How can people say this Island is boring and there is nothing to do? I know what I wanna do. Get out of here as soon as I can.

But then again no place is perfect,,, any more ‘-(

Kudos to all the emergency and hospital personnel that have to deal with this continuing carnage and have preserved many lives nonetheless.

My condolences in advance to the families and friends of the additional young males that are about to die.

@BOB S: Re solutions, you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. The solutions are already here. There are just too many stubborn horses (with guns).

@BOB S: It is not casting stones to speak the truth about what is happening or to have despair at what is happening or to express disapproval about what is happening. The comments are just as much the result of shock, dismay, despair and grief as what the families will go through though certainly not on the same level. Also while its true no one is perfect, very few of us shoot guns at other people or otherwise seek to intentionally kill.

  39. Nandi says:

    Everyday I wake up
    Realizing that you are gone
    Reality keeps forcing me
To accept that you are done

    Finished with all the chaos
    This earthly world can bring
Through with all the pain and problems
    And all those simple things

Am I so selfish to wish that you
    Were here alive on earth?
Am I wrong to wish you back
    Just so I won’t hurt?

You left behind family and friends
    Lovers and colleagues the same
I still can’t believe those boys that day
    That bullet

    But now you’re gone
    They took your life
I’m sure for no worthy cause
    Am I wrong for hoping
    They can’t sleep at night
    For motivating this unjust loss?

I can only wait until the day
    That we’ll meet again
I know that you will still be you
    Funny, crazy, a friend

    You were never perfect
    You weren’t an angel
    But you were you
    And even before you died
I knew we would never be able
    To replace you

    Your smile, your eyes
    Your laughter, your words
    Are embedded in my mind
And forever you’ll live in my heart and dreams
Until the end of my life

Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on,
    and cherished memories never fade
    because a loved one’s gone.
Those we love can never be more than a thought apart,
for as long as there is memory, they’ll live on in the heart

He was that friend you can not see in months but whenever you did meet up with him he always gave you that smile, that were ya been too girl? and come give me a hug.

I’m going to miss my dear friend, words can not even explain how I’m feeling at this moment

    Love Nandi

Condolences to the fam. It never just another shooting, its a another family ripped apart tradgically. Wish them the best.

  41. Taking Back says:

Saints of God, we are accessories to these murders….

Many times we are trying to place the blame on somebody when murders and other crimes take place. The fact remains, while many may have had a part to play, whether directly or indirectly, it is time for us to start looking at ourselves and make sure that while we are pointing one finger at others four aren’t pointing back at us. PRAYER IS THE KEY TO THE SOLUTION. It is time we as saints of the Most High God take responsibility for our part. God has given us access in to every life on the face of this earth, through prayer. Because we are not praying as we should, we Saints are really accessories to murder, drug abuse, rape, physical abuse and so much more. It is time for us to STAND UP and PRAY without ceasing. We must seek God’s face and commune with Him on a regular basis, not just daily but hourly and by the minute. Then we will be in a better place to know how to pray to prevent many of the things that are going on. Think about it….How many times has God said stop and pray right now, but we ignore Him continuing with our “important” business. How many times has He said, “come sit, talk and commune with Me,” but we tell Him we will meet Him later after our day is done? How often have we missed His instructions because we were too busy in pointless conversations that we have no business entertaining? How often have we used the excuse I can’t hear God speak to me or He doesn’t talk to me, when the truth and fact is He is always speaking but we dont spend anytime with Him so we dont know what His voice sounds like? We must understand that God speaks to us all, not just leaders, but all of His children, He doesnt play favourites! He desires to commune with each of us intimately. When we get to that place, then we will begin to know the heart of God, His joys and His sadness of what He sees His people doing, His laughter and His tears and so much more. It is then that our prayers will be even the more effective because we will know how to pray to prevent the evils that are going on or ease the pains of those going through bad situations. Time to RISE UP NOW Saints, for Soon is surely too LATE! #IntimacywithGod

  42. stern says:

Serious times in this country! My Bermuda! Our Bermuda! Our young men taken from us! How are we going to fix this problem? What a shame and a sad day. Bermudians don’t give up on your country. Young people need to speak up because they are the one’s with the answers. They need to come together and start name calling. Easier said then done though. What a frustrating situation. 1 step forward, 10 steps back!! Prayers go out to the families of victims.

  44. Crystal says:

I’m pleased to read some of the comments above. I had begun to think there were very few right thinking people left on this island I love and call home. Whenever I hear of such tragedies I’m left to think about how some mother, father, sister, brother, grandparent’s etc. life has forever been changed. I also think about the perpetrator… What happened in their life that led them to the idea of taking the life of someone else, so callously. We have a crisis on our hands people and by thinking ‘It only happens to those sorts of people’ makes it worse. There are only small degrees of separation in this land so how long is it before tragedy strikes very close to home. I’m saddened but not hopeless. One, because I know the one in which to place my hope and two, because I believe Bermuda was called for much more than this.

My deepest condolences to the family.

  45. Cancer says:

    Two words… DEATH PENALTY!

Mothers:- talk to your sons now!

  46. Rio Dawn says:

Perhaps the problem here is the mindset of the majority of the people leaving comments. So quick to blame and to give a resolution of finding the people and sentencing them. There is a reason behind all of the fun violence, and perhaps we must learn to understand it to get a handle of the situation. We need to overstand these situations! Be proactive….not reactive.

    • J Reynolds says:

The resolution for this gang mentality and these shootings is apparent. The people involved have to recognize what they are and what they are doing and make a change in their lives. It is no different than for the drug addict. No one can make them changes their lives. Society can’t make them change their lives. No resolutions dreamed up and imposed by society can make them change their lives. They have to do it themselves. All of these individuals have had someone who tried to intervene in their lives and tell them that they were on the wrong path. But these individuals choose to ignore good advice and go with what feels good to their minds i.e. the camaraderie, the fun, the lack of responsibility of gang life. They know better but they continually choose to do otherwise.

  48. The Ridiculist says:

Father in the name of Jesus, put these criminals under conviction that their lost souls would be brought to justice, so that we Bermudians can get on with our business. Father free them from themselves as they know not what they do. Lord, I pray that you will allow them to make a grave mistake on their next attempt to take a life as they have NO POWER. Lord help them to realize that they are not God and that they will not have the followers they seek for ever and ever. Jesus name AMEN.

  49. Get Out Of Bermy says:

1 ANSWER……JUST GET OUT OF BERMY!!!!!!

  50. Really, Bermuda?! says:

I read the first 4, maybe 5 comments on this post and all I can think is really?! This is the mindframe you people have when you see that someone has been shot and a life has been lost?! “This is so boring now!”…until the victim is YOU or YOURS!! This is disgusting and to be quite honest, its comments like those that aid in the Bermuda that we are living in!! Are you stating that it is okay for these things to keep happening? That is is “too boring” to help find a solution? Have you people ever heard the quote “United we stand, divided we fall” THIS IS THE PROBLEM! The community needs to work TOGETHER, instead of passing judgement on those who have been affected. Bermuda has a problem when it comes to the people living here. Clearly we all have evil in our hearts if things like that can be said. This is sad & very pathetic.

Also Bernews, I strongly feel that you should reconsider this comment section. People have no respect with what they post. And it usually turns into an arguement instead of an actual comment section.

  51. Razor says:

I love how people say not to report this cause it will hurt the Island’s reputation. The island’s reputation is already in the toilet and tourists and IB are heading elsewhere. Bermuda has bitten the hand that feeds them.

    • WHybothertocomment... says:

Why do people type comments like this like Bermuda is the only country in the world with violence? lol… because no where else in the entire planet you can’t get robbed, shot, raped???? If tourists find one country in the world that doesn’t have that problem then good for them. Needless to say, Bermuda will survive.

      • Seriously? says:

@whybothertocomment….you obviously didn’t come up in the times when this island was considered paradise. Yes these crimes happen everywhere, but really the shootings have only started here in the past 3 years and murders where few and far between ….this island used to be paradise, a place where tourists and residents can relax, so to see it change to what it has become is extremely sad….you say Bermuda will survive…your as blind as the idiots doing the shootings etc…it will not survive on the path of destruction its on…wake up!!!

  52. Seriously Speaking says:

Each time I read a post I look at the disrespect and disregard that we have for one anothers comments….We live in an era where freedom of speech is allowed..what might be a good thought to you might not be to another person and so on and so forth..but who are WE to TELL a person how they should think? who’s to say that YOUR commentary is spot on??? We are all unique and diverse individuals lets start by stop disrepecting each other with the name calling and negativity over someone else expressed thought…Not everyone is going to think alike….

RIP “my brother” you are going to be missed…..

  53. Verbal Kint says:

Marc Daniels, I agree with most of your first response here, and I am well aware of the right of defendants to the best defense, but your comments are going to be viewed as hypocritical as long as your profession cannot keep its own members better regulated. Help to clean up the practice of law here and you may begin to have some credibility with the public. How many of your colleagues do you “know are guilty?” It is your moral responsibility to make sure that they face the music.
Having said this, I grieve for the victims’ families and friends, but mostly for the hopelessness of every citizen of the island in the face of this ongoing menace. There is no easy answer to this, so we must be willing to face some difficult questions and come up with some painful answers.

  54. TIRED says:

I’M TIRED of reading about how these “idiots” are ruining our islands reputation. NO the PLP are doing that perfectly.

It’s sad that death for one means life for another. BUT its every humans instinct to want to SURVIVE.

IF YOU KNEW YOUR NAME WAS ON A HITLIST WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

  55. Friend says:

  57. Tommy Chong says:

How many more have to be shot in these areas before the police start doing 24/7 posting of officers there? Most shootings are only happening in certain vicinities in Bermuda smaller than a block in the united states. How hard would it be to have police on shifts posted in these places to deter or pursue shooters if brazen enough to shoot with officers near by? Where are the patrol vehicles if not patrolling high crime areas? One might think from putting all the facts together that either BPS are sitting twiddling their thumbs instead of working or that BPS takes the same stance as US police on low incoming housing areas that the areas & the people are not worth protecting.

    • Oh well says:

Tommy You’re an idiot! You think Police are going to prevent these shottings? I wanna hear your big plan for how this would work? Where would these police posted to the area 24/7 be? How many Police would you have up there? Then the shooting happens in Warwick then we put some there too huh? Then a shooting happens on White Hill then we put some there too right? Then we have one in Somerset and we put some there too right? How many police you think are in Bermuda? This is not a police problem this a community problem. There is nothing police can do to stop this. You cant measure prevention you really dont know when police have actually prevented a shooting. Oh I forgot about Court Street and back a town we put police everywhere huh? Be like Cuba a Communist state. Becareful what you ask for because when you go down that route dont be complaining about police brutally and rights being infringed on.

      • Tommy Chong says:

You illiterate fool!!! Can you not read that I typed, “Most shootings are only happening in certain vicinities!!!!” Vicinities is plural vicinity is singular incase you don’t know. So, to your question of posting police in White Hill & all other areas where shootings are frequent. Yes BPS should!!! This is not L.A.!!! We have gangs like parkside & 42nd who are next door to each other killing EACH OTHER!!! So how do expect the communities in this area to solve the a community problem without the backing of BPS. Do you expect civilians to arrest the renown drug dealers that roam these areas. Should we get together & have a sit down with gang members. It is well known where the gangsters are in Bermuda & I’m sure the police know just as much as the public. If a squeeze needs to be put in Bermuda on the areas where the gangsters gather so be it. If the police need to be a bit brutal with crack dealers so be it. We have enough police to cover mob, parkside, 42nd & the few other gangs territories. It only takes 2 officers in a car to monitor Glebe Road. Look how many officers are in the photos above chatting to each other. One even looks like he’s texting someone. I bet it took one car at least half an hour to get up there after shots were reported. Gangsters in bermuda are probably laughing at BPS & your comment because they feel they run the community they live in & no one can show them they don’t.

Too bad for you that you picked Cuba as a comparison not North Korea because now I can give you my comparison. Cuba gets on average over a million tourist a year & Bermuda 80,000. Why do SO MANY tourist go to cuba? Because Fidel has made it safe by any means not just for tourist but locals alike. Communism is a utopia to what we have & if practiced to a T works better than capitalism any day. Its only when a communist leader like Kim Jong abuses their power which is not communism but actually fascism that it does not work. Gangsters live with ends justifying the means mentality so we must fight fire with fire.

  58. Tired of nonsense says:

RIP and sincere condolences to all affected…

  59. God's Little Princess says:

Really, if people knew better they would do better.
You can’t really read the stupid comments of others and reply back with negativity. “One bad (apple) comment spoils the rest! If you really think about it is so simple to just read and still reply with a positive comment of your choice. If everyone thought (positive) and bypassed comments they did not like, there would be no reason to argue at all. It takes more energy and emotion to blast back than it does to just bypass a negative comment.

I mention bypass because to ignore and it will go away is so untrue. Bypass..see the situation at hand and move forward. Be more positive. You can’t change anyone but yourself.

I am 24 years old, this is my generation committing all these serious offenses. I’ve witness crime go from fist fights to jumping to machete attacks, to now…guns.
Whenever I hear of the violence I always think, I hope that person was saved. Accepted Jesus Christ. When one dies in flesh, it is really sad. To friends, family, and genuine people of this world, who witness or heard of their passing. But there’s life after death. The return of Jesus Christ.

To be a young person these days its hard. Being raise by one parent or no parents. To be trapped in the system.
It is also hard for a young person to be a Christian. Its not popular, its not the “in thing” to do. People will look at you funny. That’s why most young people don’t do it, “I’m not ready…I got time” is what’s usually said. But as you can see time waits for nobody.

With all this violence, the first thing people do is blame the police. But the police have no control over it. Their job is to investigate the crime that took place. And gather evidence from a crime scene. Then it goes before the courts. Now, I agree on some terms that they can be more stricter and focus on CRIME than find pleasuere in passing lesser laws; I.e (Fines for listening to an ipod while riding-but people in cars can blast music? What’s the difference? Double standards? But that is another topic.

Its like every time someone gets shot, most people are looking for someone to blame. But actually finding someone to blame is still underway. What is really to blame? IN MY OPINON:
Music is to blame. Satan is to blame. (Luciefer, the angel in charge of music before he was banished from heaven to earth) (The snake in the garden of Eden) Things we cannot see are to blame. There is a holy war going on earth and so many people are oblivious to it because they are caught up living in what they can see-:materialism,fame, and so on.

Just like crime has evolved from lesser to greater, so has music. Hip hop, Oldie Goldies, mellow music is finished. Its the 21 century. All you hear about is sex, drugs and violence in music these days. And the listeners (my generation) are brainwashed and follow what they hear. Now days you see a music video on tv and the video has nothing to do with the song. Subliminal messages in every last one. Its all evil. Pay close attention!
Most of these rapper/ artists sell their souls to the devil. That’s apart of satan’s fulfillment:-Take as much people to the lake of hell with him as he can. Most times the listeners/followers of the music sing along and don’t even know what it means!

Another things is, everyone wants to move off the island because of all this shooting. The million dollar question is, where can you live free of violence now days? Please share! There is violence everywhere. Its getting worse and worse. We have of a shooting here and there in Bermuda, but in some places numerous people get shot a DAY!
Bermuda is so small so its in our faces. Seems so surreal.
Its so sad. What can we do though? Look whose to blame? Argue? Get revenge?

No! Don’t blame anyone. Understand that this is beyond what we can see. That even though its all sad and horrible its inevitable. Its written in the Bible, the last days are near. Arguing only leads to anger, which leads to violence. Takes two to argue. Revenge is for the Lord!

With all this said, I strong feel that someone will disagree with it. I’m not saying I am right, its only my opinion. Its what I believe. I will bypass any negative comments it and still be positive!

What I have written may not apply to all…. but I strongly believe it will save some for Jesus Christ….open eyes for others and surely make someone’s day!

    • Tommy Chong says:

I don’t think Japan, Ireland and Iceland got the memo about the end of world because they have managed to keep they’re murder rate down. There’s others just behind them with low murder rates maybe they just got the end of world memo.

      • Don't be deceived says:

We used to have a low to no murder rate too just a few years ago…..so maybe the memo is just moving by snail mail!

    • J Reynolds says:

Actually I think many will agree with much of what you say and want to hear from people your age. I would say two things to you. Single parent or no parent didn’t start in your generation, its been with us for a while. The key difference in my opinion is that in the past there was some societal disapproval of absentee dads that made a difference to males. No absentee/baby daddies are accepted and the norm.

Second, I think you are absolutely right in pointing out the influence of music. Raunchy lyrics have been around forever but the gangsta rap brew of violent, profane and antisocial lyrics has gone mainstream and the capitalist system has helped ensure that this decadent point of view has been widely disseminated by the new digital age, all for the sake of the dollar/euro/pound, etc. So this negative social viewpoint is constantly bombarding society and has affected the thinking and choices of many people.

One can’t say that music is to blame because no matter what people can discern right from wrong and it is their responsibility when they choose wrong as a lifestyle. And this is equally true as regards the lack of fathers in the home properly raising their children. People still have the ability to discern no matter what.

      • J Reynolds says:

Last sentence of first paragraph should read: “Now” absentee/baby daddies are accepted and the norm.

  60. Operation Hammer says:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Hammer_(1987)

    This is the best solution!

Round of these MF’s and do a forceful search of EVERYONE’s house. And get them in prison where they belong, or DEPORTED.

Crack the whip! Hit ANYONE who is invovled with gangs or hangs out with gangs. Bring in a forceful crew from away is the BPD are to cowardly to enter into a friends home. Lock them up for ANYTHING – even a gram a weed! Lock them up!

  61. Carse Yer Wote (Original) says:

I heard from a reliable source that the police are not that concerned and are looking at these murders as a way to naturally clear Bermuda of this criminal element. The murderers are doing what the legal system cannot. Hopefully soon it will be over.

  62. Dre says:

My condolences to the victim’s friend and family, especially his daughter. Another child left to be raised without a father, and no one can give a valid reason why.

I lost a good friend to this violence, it has almost been two years, and I am still heavy hearted. He was a good friend to me…imagine what his family is feeling, what is children are feeling. It has to be another way for the gentleman to deal with their disputes. Everytime I hear about a shooting, I hold my breath until I make the calls to my boyfriend and closest male friends that they are safe and not the latest victim.

Maybe it is time to implement an island curfew until this madness calms down. at least as a first step

Again my condolences, another father taken too soon

    Black people
    1. fought to end slavery
    2. fought segregation
    3. fought for Voting rights
    4. fought for better education,
    5. fought for good jobs
    6. fought for everything that we call freedom today

then.. here comes a generation, that is either ignorant does not respect the past!
    and what do we do,
we all just wish this will go away, we talk about how bad it have become and … what’s next … just asking these guy to stop and have common sense
    BUT:
If this generation of Black people lived during the past 200 years, could all the above things have end by now, or we will still be accepting status quo????

    WHO HAVE WE BECOME?

    • J Reynolds says:

      Very well said. Good questions.

But the responsibility is on the people who are doing these things. They know better. There are people and resources that can help them change their lives. But they choose not to do so and its difficult to see what society can do to make them change. I’m not being defeatist, just trying to face up to the reality staring us in the face.

      • Serious Though says:

so do we sit and wait for them to reason against their wickedness?

  64. Triangle Drifter says:

And the apologists keep on making excuses. “Oh well, it happens elsewhere” they bleat.

Yes, but it never used to happen here. A murder used to be a rare occurence. Penaltys used to be stiff for crime.

As much as many would like the death penalty reinstated, it is not going to happen. Prison can be made a miserable place to be however.

At $80,000 per prisoner per year Westgate is obviously too easy to live in.

Putting all the thugs on an island, giving them all, except 1 guns, with limited ammo, & letting them go at it, sounds good too. It won’t happen either.

In the meantime the shooting & the wailing of mothers, many of whom lived good by their sons drugs involment, will continue.

  65. Wow, i have read all the blogs here and my heart crys out for you all. this is the first time writting and reading these blogs. so, because of the area this event took place you all have asumed that it was gang related. profiling, wow! some of you realy think that you are different from the shooters, no, its sounds like some of you have the same heart as the shooters. everything in life starts with a thought that may turn into an action, and by the blogs written here, your hearts are just as gangters as the shooter, instead you use words as your bullets, it all hurts the same and as a close friend of the decease i can say it was not gang related AT All! the shooter is just a lost soul who as hatred in his heart because someone or something that has hurt him in his life and he has not received healing inturn inflicking pain on another as the say goes misery loves company. um sure he as a child never thought he would have taken someone’s life. it started with bad thoughts, that was spoken, like some of you today ( sounds like some of you are hurting from something because when ya truly happy, you want other to be happy too! and you dont say such hurtfull things. MERCY!!! encourage one another, bless the family of the decease, and pray for the shooter and his family. lets touch and agree to keep fighting for OUR island instead of this foolishness here, mon, cha! wow smh

    • J Reynolds says:

I agree. We have to wait and see if the victims appear to be innocent as it relates to the on going tit for tat gang shootings. That has proven to be the case several times thus far.

As for the shooter(s), he may be a lost soul but it will be difficult to convince me that he isn’t gang involved or motivated by gang revenge to strike out at anyone perceived as close to or related to the actual gang target. But will wait to see what the investigation determines.

      • lol you miss the whole point of what i was saying. i went past the natural, and jump to the core of reasoning as to why the shooter is in a gang in the first place. i never said that the shooter was not in a gang! i just know for a fact, because i was there sunday, that the victom was not a part of a gaang nor was he the intented target!!! Stefan just happen to walk out the door first and get the blunt of the hit. He was on his way to go have dinner with his mother!!!
        Bless

        • real is real says:

And this is my opinion on your comment about him walking out the door first – he is over 6 feet tall, yes as you say he was the first man out but if he was NOT the target or one of the targets the shooter would not have shot him multiple times.

He was a decent guy in my eyes and spoke to me whenever we passed but REAL is REAL, when I had my child I FLEDDDD from that lifestyle and never looked back, so I can walk the streets with my child without looking over my shoulder. EVERY man knows when they should get out and change their life for the better and focus on career, family, kids etc. the struggle is hard but my kid worth every sweat n tear, But sometimes its to late and you AND ya CREW have targets on ya back.

          ALL OVER JEALOUSY & ENVY

    • Tommy Chong says:

I also have lost a friend to a shooting who had no gang ties but I can’t fool myself & think the shooter did not have gang connections. I cannot believe there are many if any individuals who illegally own a gun in Bermuda that are not affiliated to a gang. This is where it all hits the fan when innocents are shot by gangsters. We are at the beginning of that stage & if we do not hash it out now & find a solution all that is still good in our island will end. Beside how do you know the shooter is just a lost soul? To know that you must know the shooter. Lets call it what it is & not beat around the bush even if you have nothing to do with a gang but get on the bad side of gangster & get shot it still is gang related.

  66. Can't Believe says:

I feel the ppl like blogging and this what is keeping the violoence increasing. Because ones pain can’t explain how family and friends feel. So as long as this site keeps on allowing ppl to blog that dont know absolutely nothing of the scenairo and just keep on assuming this is what is causing these problems and also causing our beautiful Island to lose Tourism and Families even coming to visit. That is why we need to bring back History about Bermuda back into the schools so they can appreciate where they come from. An stop making yourselves feel that you should be afraid of these thugs becuse they thrive off of this. They only person I fear is the almighty, and when you do express how you fel to these so called thugs they back down and understand your hurt and pain because they have family as well. So stop blogging that you are afraid. We need to come out to all areas and show them that we have had enough as a ppl Black, White, Hispanic,Jamaicans all nations and let this country know that enough is enoughj.

  67. USObserver says:

Who shipped in a container full of guns and ammo? Someone obviously looked the other way while having their hand out to collect…shame on you. It’s probably too late to check into who’s doing what on the docks…or maybe not.
