Onika Best To Perform At Chewstick Griot Session

June 27, 2012

Thursday, June 28th, world music and soulful expression will be celebrated at the Chewstick lounge, with “Griot Sessions”, a designed to spotlight local talent and celebrate live entertainment, by giving Bermuda’s artists the chance to craft their own showcase.

A Chewstick spokesperson said, “This Thursday will be an evening featuring Onika Best a talented singer, drummer, poet and soulful artist.

“The audience will be treated to a mix of genres with Bermudian all-girl Pop band, Anti-Boy as the opening act before Ms Best takes the audience on a voyage with her mastery of the Congo drums and her deeply sensual voice, lifted in song.

“The showcase will be followed by a smooth DJ set and after party as we celebrate Ms. Best, who has traveled the globe performing her unique style of storytelling to audiences from all walks of life.

“While, Ms. Best has been able to accomplish her dream of travelling the world to perform, this will be her first time in a solo showcase in her island home. The combination of the feature, opening act and vibrant host will definitely satisfy the palette for quality performance.

“Onika Best has a passion for truth, storytelling and for celebrating the amazing influence world travel can have on developing artistic voices, collaboration and understanding. Onika Best has performed alongside the Queen of Soca Allison Hinds, at music festivals in Africa, the Caribbean and Europe and is ready to bring all she has learned, back home.

“Onika Best’s performance is an invaluable addition to the Griot Sessions series; designed to spotlight the beauty, expression and richness of storytelling in all its forms. With all girl band, “Anti-Boy” this will be an unforgettable night. Ms. Best is eager to inspire the next generation of storytellers and strives to make all her performances wholesome and enjoyable for all in attendance.

“Do not miss the opportunity to experience a dynamic performance, collaboration, and celebrate individuality, expression and live entertainment at its best. Following the performance everyone is invited to dance into the night with an after party and plenty of vibes!”
