Smith Holds Lead In Optimist Championships

In near perfect sailing conditions today [Nov 11], the Bermuda Optimist sailors in the Digical Bermuda National Championships relished the superb sailing conditions on the second day of competition.

RBYC Sailing Academy sailor Benn Smith [13] continues to dominate the Bermuda Optimist National Championships this weekend. He is now 5 points clear of the Fleet, second is RBYC’s Chase Cooper, with RHADC’s Cecelia Wollmann third and youngster Campbell Patton [11] in 4th.

Benn Smith leads the Fleet to the gybe mark:

Peter Dill and Matilda improved their overall scores today with race wins during the day. 12 year old Adriana Penruddock continues to excel in the conditions and is currently in the top 10. Monday will be the final day of the series.

Matilda Nicholls wins Race 7:

The race weekend consists of up to 15 races with 5 races scheduled per day in Hamilton Harbour, Granaway Deep and the Great Sound. Scheduled for November 10th – 12th, the series was open to the one-design Optimist Class, members of the Bermuda Optimist Dinghy Association and competitors born on or after January 1st 1997.
