Video: Faulkenberry Performs At Earth Hour

Bermudian Broadway star Rebecca Faulkenberry headlined this evening’s [Mar 29] Earth Hour event in Hamilton, which served to bring attention to the environment and our use of energy.

Ms. Faulkenberry, who recently played Mary Jane Watson in the Broadway smash hit Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark, agreed to perform some songs from the musical alongside co-star Reeve Carney, who has just finished filming in Ireland for the new HBO series Penny Dreadful.

The former Bermuda High School student — a veteran of many Bermuda Musical & Dramatic Society and Bermuda Gilbert & Sullivan Society productions — made her first Broadway appearance in 2011 i then ’80s-era musical “Rock Of Ages”.

Before moving to New York, she had worked in London’s West End appearing in such shows as “High School Musical” and “Aunt Dan and Lemon.”

Earth Hour is a global initiative organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature [WWF] involving millions of people around the globe. The event, now in its seventh year, aims to bring the world together to celebrate and protect the environment. Bermuda has taken part in Earth Hour since 2007.

Gordon Johnson, Executive Director of Greenrock, the organization behind the event, previously said: “Turning off a light for one hour is clearly a symbolic gesture. It reminds us of our ability to be less dependent upon fossil fuels. And by reducing our energy use, we benefit immediately with reduced energy costs.

    Its all just a feel good stunt that doesn’t make much difference, any significant drop in electricity demand will entail a reduction in CO2 emissions during the hour, but it will be offset by the surge from firing up coal or gas stations to restore electricity supplies afterward.

    Ok so your using a microphone to sing which is using electricity to be powered…hmmm….so why not sing acapella isn’t that being more environmentally aware? Just asking, lol!

      a. There were a LOT of people there. Singing unplugged wouldn’t work. No one would be able to hear.
