Students Attend BFIS Speed Networking Event

July 11, 2015

On Thursday, July 9, BFIS held another of their Speed Networking events for 30 undergraduates and 30 insurance industry professionals at ACE Bermuda.

Jonathan Allen, chair of the BFIS Mentor Networking Committee started the event at exactly 12 noon and encouraged the students to make the most of the 6 minutes they would have with each of the 8 professionals they would be talking to.

Everyone enjoyed the ‘speed’ interviews so much that they didn’t stop for lunch until almost a hour had gone by, and then continued general networking for a further half-hour.

Cathy Lapsley, Executive Director of BFIS said, “The comments received from both students and professionals were all very positive [as always].

“We are now seeing students who have graduated and are working in insurance sitting on the ‘other’ side of the table, and they fully understand the effectiveness of these networking events. The random contacts that are made can be career changing, and we cannot thank the professionals enough for volunteering their time”.

The next BFIS Speed Networking event will be their End of Summer Party on August 12th from 5-7pm which has a less structured format but still provides a chance to meet and talk with insurance professionals before the students leave for college.

The BFIS Networking volunteers come from all areas and levels of Bermuda’s insurance and related industries.

“BFIS thanks The Aon Rhondelle Tankard Memorial Fund which sponsors the BFIS Mentor Networking Programme and ACE Bermuda for providing the venue,” a spokesperson said.
