Tropical Storm Colin Expected On Saturday

[Updated] Tropical Storm Colin has re-formed in the Atlantic and is approaching Bermuda, and the Bermuda Weather Service has said that “Colin is a threat to Bermuda”, and is expected to pass to our west late Saturday Aug 7th, with conditions easing through Sunday. Local forecasters say that winds and showers will increase overnight Friday with Tropical Storm conditions expected Saturday, including gale force winds.

The US National Hurricane Center says that as of this evening, the center of the storm is located about 470 miles south of Bermuda and moving northwest at about 20mph, and that its top sustained winds are projected to be up to 60 mph.

The Bermuda Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Warning saying we may experience possible sustained winds within the range of 34-63 knots (63-117 km/h) (39-73 mph) to affect Bermuda or the local marine area out to 25 nautical miles within 36 hours or less.

Colin was orginally deemed to be a Tropical Depression, upgraded to a Tropical Storm on Aug 3, downgraded to a depression and this evening [Aug 5] upgraded to a Tropical Storm again. Update Aug 6, 6am: The US National Hurricane Center said that Colin has weakened, is about 410 miles south south-west off Bermuda, now lists it maximum sustained winds at 45 mph, and say it is moving in our direction at 14 mph. They say it should bring between 3 – 5 inches of rainfall, and “large and battering waves.”
