Witness Appeal: Three Firearm Incidents

March 27, 2011

The Bermuda Police Service has appealed for witnesses to the three confirmed firearm incidents this weekend, one of which left a 16-year-old male hospitalised.

The Police said forensic evidence has been collected from the respective scenes and investigators are continuing to conduct inquiries. They said it is too early to say whether these incidents are linked; however the possibility has not been ruled out.

Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011 or the independent, confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477 or website, where tips can be left anonymously.

At around 10:20pm on Friday [Mar. 25] shots were fired at the junction of Cedar Avenue & Laffan Street. Markers on the scene indicate that at least eight shots may have been fired.

Approximately 90 minutes later – at around 11:50pm on Friday – Police responded to a report of another shooting on Rambling Lane, located off Parsons Road by the laundromat. A 16-year-old male was shot and rushed to the hospital via ambulance, where he is listed in stable condition in the intensive care unit. In a sign he is making a good recovery, the 16-year-old victim updated his Facebook page a few times this evening [Mar.27]. He said he was shot two times.

About 13 hours later – at around 1:30pm on Saturday – gunshots were fired again in the same Rambling Lane area, while plain-clothed Police officers from the Forensic Support Unit and the Serious Crime Unit were in the area processing the scene of the shooting the night before. There were no reported injuries.

Just Saying! Was he inside or outside when he got shot? What is there for 16 year olds to be doing outside that late except for getting in trouble. Was he cutting the grass or painting the house? Was he helping somebody with their homework? If he was inside where he should have been he might not have gotten shot. It reminds me of this 13 year old boy that was outside playing at 1:00 in the morning and he got run over and killed by a stolen car in Jersey. These little kids need to be safe in their homes eating cookies. You won’t catch my kids out after 10pm. I’m not saying he’s a bad kid because I don’t know him. I’m just saying!
