BMDS To Perform “All’s Well That Ends Well?”

July 17, 2013

_FDP6818The BMDS Summer Shakespeare production this year is “All’s Well That Ends Well?” which is one of the Bard’s lesser known works – and with good reason, suggests director Barbara Jones.

“I read the original play several times and just couldn’t have any sympathy for most of the characters – their motivations and behaviour seemed truly unbelievable – but there were elements of the plot that appealed to me so I decided to join in the long theatrical tradition of playing around with Shakespeare!”

Ms Jones spent many months reworking the plot and characters to turn the script upside down to create a show shorn of it’s impenetrable Jacobean intricacies but filled with modern humour, colourful costumes, novel props, and plenty of fast moving action.

At just about two hours long, the show should be appealing and accessible to audiences of all ages for an evening of lighthearted summer fun in the comfortable and air conditioned Daylesford Theater at the corner of Dundonald and Washington Streets.

A spokesperson said,”Performing at Daylesford is an important part of the solution to another accessibility issue in the local arts scene – access for wheelchair bound performers. The Earl Cameron City Hall theater has an accessible auditorium but there is no realistic way to get on stage in a wheelchair.

“The Daylesford building is not fully accessible, but there is direct access to the foyer and bar area [including a bathroom], and the stage and auditorium can be accessed through the double doors on Dundonald Street using a shallow ramp that has been purpose built to fit. This is critically important to one of the cast of All’s Well – Nick Fagundo – as he is once more able to enjoy his love of performing, and his friends and fellow thespians are delighted to have his powerful presence back on stage!”

“All’s Well that Ends Well?” Opens this Friday [July 19] and runs until July 27. Tickets are $25 and are on sale now here.
