Chris Estwanik Wins Gold Medal In Island Games
Chris Estwanik has captured the gold medal in the half marathon in the 2015 NatWest Island Games in Jersey; celebrating his win by running a victory lap of the track with his two young children while flying the Bermudian flag.
Estwanik, who defeated Olympian Lee Merrien and defending champion Kevin Loundes to win the race in a time of 67:16 earlier today [June 28], will also see action in the 5000m and 10000m later this week.

Speaking after the race, Estwanik said: “It was a very challenging course, tough conditions and strong competition. I’d like to congratulate all the other competitors. I’m looking forward to a great Games this week.”
Also in action was Ryan Wilson who finished 25th, while in the ladies half marathon, Deon Breary finished 10th clocking a time of 1:28.46, Rose-Anna Hoey finished 13th clocking 1:30.55 and Victoria Fiddick finished 15th with a time of 1:32.32.
The Island Games sees athletes from 24 islands compete in up to 14 sports, and today is the first day of competition, with Estwanik’s medal the first medal won by Bermuda.
