40 Minutes Of Video: Labour Day Celebrations
Labour Day celebrations were held today [Sept 5] at Union Square, with the day beginning with the race early this morning, and followed by speeches from Union leaders and a march through the streets of Hamilton.
Despite the rain, a crowd gathered to take part in the annual event, which opened with a prayer from Reverend Nicholas Tweed, and included a moment of silence for Maynard Dill, who passed away this weekend.
Union Leaders then addressed the crowd, with speakers including Bermuda Union of Teachers President Shannon James, Bermuda Entertainment Union President Leroy Simmons, BPSU President Jason Hayward, and BIU President Chris Furbert.
The day’s proceedings then continued with the annual Labour Day march through the streets of Hamilton, with the various Unions represented. We will have full photo gallery and ‘proper’ videos later, and in the meantime 40 minutes of footage is available below via live stream replays.

I would like to thank Furby for now coming out in full support of work permit holders, he is threatening once again to disrupt Bermuda if a certain work permit is not renewed, so being he is a straight up guy, I can only assume from now on he will bring Bermuda down if ANY work permit holder is denied an extension?
The question Chris should ask himself are there qualified bermudians to fill the post. After all he is suppose to defend the rights of locals/bermudians right?
Wake up people. Is the Union and Chris Furbert doing anything great for you?
DOUBT IT VERY MUCH.
TOO MANY STRIKES AND DOWN-TIME. THIS ONLY RESULTS IN PAYING OVERTIME OR DOUBLETIME FOR THOSE UNION MEMBERS WHO WERE ON STRIKE.
THINK ABOUT IT. WHO IS PUTTING MORE MONEY IN THEIR POCKET. NOT YOU!
Hey FOOL, after Chris goes the Union still goes on, just like de Presidents before him.Union members get GOOD benefits that were ratified in goof faith, unlike some private firms who give their employees minimal benefits and wages and pocket everything for themselves.
Really could you at least try to be objective. His concern wasn’t solely a work permit it was governmental interference in day-to-day tasks based on political games / sabotage. That should concern anyone but it’s clear you’ve twisted what he said for your own purpose.
Looks like he wants to bend/break the law as long as he benefits from it.
If a qualified Bermudian is available, this “friend” must not have his/her work permit renewed.
Plain and simple!
If he’s on a work permit, what’s the job? What’s the pay?
And if he ain’t Bermudian. Wow. How dare you preach to anyone what’s best for Bermuda.
What’s good for the goose? (You can’t have it both ways!)
So when did Government get involved with renewed contracts?
