Ministry Offers Email Alerts For Bus Cancellations

December 4, 2017

The Ministry of Transport and Regulatory Affairs said they are “pleased to announce a streamlined notification system for users of Bermuda’s public bus system in the event of route cancellations.

“The reduction in the size of the available vehicle fleet at the Department of Public Transportation [DPT] has been affecting rush hour traffic in the mornings and evenings during the school year,” a spokesperson said.

“More out-of-service buses has meant uncertainty in the fulfilment of the regular schedule. The new system goes into effect this afternoon, 4 December.

Commuters will be able to log on to find the most up-to-date bus alert information adjacent to the enhanced bus schedule on the Government portal. They are advised to book mark the pages for handy access to the information they need to identify bus movements for a particular route.

“But they can also opt in for email notifications.

“For months, DPT and the island’s media have been combining to provide regular bus users with updates on cancellations on specific routes.”

Deputy Premier and Minister of Transport and Regulatory Affairs Walter Roban said, “Bermuda’s media houses, in an effort to keep the public informed, have been a great partner to DPT in advising commuters of the affected routes.

“Notifications through a bus cancellation list two times a day provided enough information to keep our regular customers informed of the schedule interruptions.

“We continue to work toward making these cancellations a thing of the past. But in the face of a reduced and ageing fleet, we must improve the notifications as best we can.

“The new system puts the entire schedule – and changes – at the fingertips of the consumers on computers, tablets and smartphones.

“We hope in the near future to improve the notification system even further.”
