Dellwood Wins BSSF Track Championships

Dellwood Middle School repeated as champions at the Bermuda School Sports Federation middle school track and field championships.

Dellwood blew away all competition with 533 points. Their nearest rival was Sandys Secondary middle school with 448. T.N. Tatem rounded out the top three with 437 points. Dellwood won the girls division with 308 followed by Warwick Academy with 213 and Sandys with 203. T.N. Tatem won the boys division with 265. Sandys finished second with 245, followed by Dellwood with 227.

Mitayah Richardson from Dellwood won the under 12 champion girl race with victories in the 400 meter, high jump and long jump. Other top performers were Ramiah Brangman from Sandys who won the 800 and 1500 while finishing second in the 400. Schoolmate Azra Shakir won the 100 and 200 meters and finished third in the 400.

Jannis Roberts from Somersfield Academy was crowned under 12 boys champion. Roberts won the high jump and shot put and finished fourth in the javelin event. Denver Tucker from the Bermuda Institute won the 100 and 200 event.

Dellwood’s Jahstice Grant won the 100 200 and long jump to claim the under 13 girls title. Warwick’s Shayla Cann also impressed in winning the 400 and 1500 and finishing third in the 100.

The under 13 boys winner was Anaya West from Sandy’s, who won the sprint treble with wins in the 100 200 and 400 meter races. Classmate Stefan Jones was victorious in the 1500 and 800 meters, but finished third in the 400 meters.

Bermuda High School’s Jezhari Talbot claimed gold medals in the 400, 800 and long jump in the over 13 division. Eleanor Richmond of Warwick Academy won the discus and javelin and finished third in the shot put.

The over 13 boys title was shared by two T.N. Tatem students; Chayse Tanner claimed the 100, 200 and long jump titles for the second year running, while Sancho Smith won the high jump, 400 and 800 meters.

Smith followed up last week’s record breaking high jump performance with another record in the 800 meters. He knocked over four seconds off the record set last year by Nyrobi Smith Mills after he crossed the line in 2:07.50.
