Tour Of Government House Being Offered
Next month the Bermuda Tourism Authority will hosting a tour of Government House, saying “visitors and locals can walk the halls and experience the history and culture of the grounds.”
The BTA said, “Bermuda’s British influences are ever-present, but rarely do we get to see inside the Governor’s official residence, known as Government House.
“His Excellency, The Governor of Bermuda, John Rankin CMG, has agreed to open the doors of this impressive estate along the North Shore so that visitors and locals can walk the halls and experience the history and culture of the grounds.
“The intimate tour will include a look into The Royal Suite, the living quarters for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and other royals when they visit Bermuda. The tour will also pass through the expansive gardens, where the likes of John F Kennedy Jr. and Sir Winston Churchill have planted ceremonial trees.
“For one day only, October 11, part of a holiday weekend for U.S. visitors, two bus tours are on offer for this experience, which will include a Bermuda cocktail to conclude the outing. Tickets go on sale soon.
“The tours begin at the Hamilton Visitor Services Centre and meander through central parish neighbourhoods locals know well, like Verdmont Valley, Kilderry Estate and Spanish Point, to give visitors a show-and-tell understanding of our way of life out here. The tour will then move to Government House where the Governor’s Aide-de-Camp offers a rare guided tour experience of the late 19th Century property.
“As Government House is a working office, the Governor, Her Majesty’s appointed representative to Bermuda, may be spotted on the move between his residence and office. For security reasons, tours must be booked no less than one week in advance and only one ticket per person will be allowed; the ticket buyer’s name must match the name of the photo identification presented on the day of the tour.”
