BUEI & Audubon Society To Host Cahow Lecture
In collaboration with the Bermuda Audubon Society, the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] will be hosting a new ‘BUEI Talks’ presentation
A spokesperson said, “This lecture, titled “Return of the Cahow: New Research Unveils the Mysteries of Bermuda’s National Bird,” will be held on Thursday, June 27th from 7:30pm to 8:30pm.
“The ‘BUEI Talks’ series aims to inform and educate Bermuda residents interested in safeguarding the health of the oceans surrounding our Island and encourage engagement between community members and local NGOs with an ocean focus.
“The story of Bermuda’s National Bird is well-known; thought to be extinct for hundreds of years before being rediscovered in 1951. At the time, their total population was down to a measly eighteen pairs, but thanks to careful and intensive management work, the species has seen significant recovery over the course of sixty-five years.
“Presented by Jeremy Madeiros, Senior Terrestrial Conservation Officer for the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, this lecture will provide an update on the Cahow Recovery Program as well as the various findings of recent research. Conservation work carried out collaboratively by Bermudian and international scientists over the last five years is now providing valuable new information about the Cahow’s biology and the species’ position within the greater North Atlantic biome.
“To book tickets for this installment of ‘BUEI Talks’, visit our website [www.buei.org] or call 294-0204. Tickets can also be purchased on P-Tix or in person at BUEI’s Oceans Gift Shop.”
