Female Injured In Shooting In Paget
[Updated with video] A female “sustained multiple gunshot wounds” and was taken to hospital for “treatment of her injuries which are considered life-threatening,” the police have confirmed.
A police spokesperson said, “Around 11:10 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024, police and other first responders were dispatched to a confirmed firearms incident on the South Shore Road near the junction with Strawberry Hill, Paget.
“Upon arrival, officers found a female who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, lying in the roadway next to a motorcycle.
“EMTs commenced life saving measures before transporting the victim to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for further treatment of her injuries which are considered life-threatening.
“Reports are the female and a male pillion passenger were traveling west on the South Shore Road, when they were shot at by unknown suspects who fled the scene traveling east on a dark coloured motorcycle.
“It is not known whether the pillion passenger who left the scene before the arrival of police, was injured.
“An investigation into this incident has now commenced and anyone with any information is asked to contact Acting Detective Inspector Odessa Philip of the Serious Crime Unit, on 717-2193 or via email ophilip@bps.bm

Update 11.25am: Paget MP Scott Pearman said, “Let me start by offering my heartfelt sympathy to all who have suffered because of what happened.
“The facts are still emerging and we need to await that outcome before rushing to any judgment. Subject to the release of more information, this is yet another in a series of tragic events, events where we as an island community are failing each other.
“Regardless of the specifics of this tragic event, the simple point is that violence in Bermuda will only stop when all of us decide it must stop. This is everyone’s problem. We must ask ourselves what is the future that we want for our island.”
Update 12.57pm: Minister of National Security Michael Weeks said, “I am deeply saddened by last night’s incident, resulting in the hospitalisation of a woman with gunshot wounds. My thoughts go out to her family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
“This senseless act of violence is alarming. Our community deserves to feel safe and secure, and incidents like this only heighten the pressing need to combat gun violence.
“The Bermuda Police Service is currently investigating this incident and is appreciative of the support from those members of the public who have stepped forward to provide information.
