Somerset Mural Documentary Set To Premiere
A new documentary titled ‘Bus Stop Mural: Legacy of Somerset’ will premiere at Sandys Secondary Middle School, with showings set for Friday [June 6], Saturday [June 7], and Sunday [June 8].
Dale Butler said, “When Barbara Dillas, art teacher and mentor, decided to add to the art shows and murals she had completed in Somerset, she had no idea that her creative flair of highlighting the businesses of Somerset would lead to a second step.
“I was asked in December 2023 to critique the bus stop mural for Bernews. It was while I took photos that I asked her if it was possible she could add to it with a documentary. Barbara agreed and we have worked hard to co-produce it with filmmaker and editor Marcquedelle Phillips Rodriguez in order to show ‘Bus Stop Mural: Legacy of Somerset’ at Sandys Secondary Middle School on Friday, June 6th and Saturday, June 7th at 7.00pm and on Sunday there will be a matinee at 3.00pm.
“Admission is $10. The public is invited to attend and there will be a question and answer period at the end.
“The past month has been difficult for the Somerset residents with the loss of the late artist Vernon Clark, the late Mr. Weldon ‘Red’ Dowling, the late lawyer Larry Scott, the late school teacher Miranda Lister, and the late Dr. Melvyn Bassett, to name just a few. But the residents have always been resilient and the film storytellers take the lead in highlighting their determination to forge ahead and build on the legacy of so many residents – in this case, the numerous businesses that Somerset has had.
“We look forward to this premiere showing of the film followed by questions and answers.”
