Dylan Peart Graduates At Boston Hospital
Bermudian Dylan Peart has graduated during a special ceremony via Zoom from his hospital room in Boston.
Dylan, who has a rare genetic disorder, faced serious health challenges in the autumn when he experienced multiple seizures and a dangerously rapid heart rate.
While doctors in Bermuda managed to stabilise the seizures, his condition required specialised cardiac surgery at the Boston Children’s Hospital.
Doctors performed a tracheostomy to help Dylan breathe more easily.
In February, he was moved to Franciscan Children’s Hospital for ongoing rehabilitation and to prepare his parents with the training necessary to care for him at home.
Dylan’s parents had hoped he could return to Bermuda in time to graduate from Dame Marjorie Bean Hope Academy in Devonshire.
Although he was not ready to travel, his school and the team at Franciscan Children’s ensured he would not miss his graduation.
Dressed in a cap and gown, Dylan participated in his graduation ceremony virtually on Friday [June 13].
Hospital staff played Pomp and Circumstance from a phone, and gathered to cheer him on.
Adding a personal touch to the celebration, Dylan performed a solo on the djembe drum – the result of weeks of practice in music therapy sessions at the hospital.
