Minister & SCARS On Release Of Sex Offender
SCARS has raised concerns over the release of convicted sex offender Bryan Butterfield and asked “why was the public not notified of his release” and “what treatment has he completed whilst in custody.”
The organisation posted on social media asking questions including, “Why is Mr. Butterfield, convicted of a serious offense begin released less than one year after conviction? Why was the public not notified of his release? Can anyone confirm that he is no longer considered a risk to young girls?”
Bernews asked for a response to SCAR’s comments, and Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Kim Wilkerson replied, “The Ministry of Justice appreciates the role SCARS plays as an advocate for child victims, raising awareness and providing valuable training to our community.
“In the instant case, I am confident that the sentence awarded by the Judiciary was commensurate with the offence. The victim in this matter is now an adult, and all protocols in relation to risk assessment of the offender and notification of the victim have taken place, including safeguarding measures as conditions of probation.”
