this is what the bta comes up with?
i sure hope they have better things in store!

      What’s wrong with it?

      • JUNK YARD DOG says:

Any Tourist program that specifically targets a small number of selected people is a waste of time and money.

However, programs which cater to a greater and wider spectrum of people will work every time.

Encouraging seasonal vacations is only a “dime for a day” policy.

People up north are freezing their butts off just now a winter vacation here would be a welcome relief.

Bermuda’s draw card is diversity of activities and sport in all it various forms not just golf, if i am wrong then the Olympics has to go.

People have hobbies other than eating and drinking and when they come on vacation they should be able participate.

The big problem that Bermuda will not come to grips with the fact that this island too expensive, Taxation affects us all, as a born Bermudian I can not or want to afford a vacation here and till that day comes how can we we expect others to come here.

Just a continuation of the “Feel the Glove” promotion that replaced the Triathlon back in 2009 [and that love fest did so well didn't it]. Government used to spend some $75,000 supporting the Triathlon, an event that brought 600 visitors and generated several pages of coverage in all the relevant sporting magazines. Instead they spent twice as much money to attract 20% of the people and completely lost the free advertising in the sports magazines.

This “new” program is simply an attempt to make people think they’re doing something by renaming something that has already failed.

    • JUNK YARD DOG says:

Why does every thing have to be limited to a time frame.

what’s wrong with 9 to 5 and if we want to get out of the mess that we are in how about 9.to 9.

Bermuda is the island of “NO” Why is that so ?

and the failed ‘just let go’ campaign from 97/98 under dodwell

  3. more than enough says:

or the present ‘so much more’ trash. people actually get paid for this stuff?

  4. MAKE MY DAY says:

Isn’t that going to “conflict” with black history month…LOL!!!

  5. Prayerful says:

Don’t forget February is also “Heart Month”

  6. more than enough says:

how much you getting paid bill?
    let’s see…i’ll low ball it, at $120,000 a year.
    that is $10,000 a month.
you’ve been here maybe three weeks to a month, the chairman has been receiving something similar to this, for a few months now. add this to the wages of the rest of the bta staff, and all the overhead ie rental of office space, rental of executive accommodations etc…
the lack of the real numbers for expenditure, only leaves one to speculate. did the bta pay for bill to travel to bermuda? first class maybe? say they had a buisness lunch does the bta foot the bill?
keeping this in mind, i have not seen much in the way of cooperation as it relates to transparency, or in accordance with the sage commission recommendations. if the money for the funding is public, it is important to know how the money is spent. especially the ridiculous amounts of money spent on the executive.
for example; ie it is decided that wages and hours are to be cut for the cs and parliament members, and possibly the entire government, and maybe even job losses as a last option. as per the sage recommendation.
will the bta executive etc.. be free of these needed adjustments, while continuing to do with the public purse as they like? or will they be held to a similar standard, and make the appropriate cuts too?
from the top down, that is.

  7. JUNK YARD DOG says:

I would “LOVE” to see our Government drop the import duty on all petroleum based products ,B.E.L.Co would then be able to lower their prices,no point owning an electric car.

Cost of living is controlled by fuel prices

At last count I found over 25 local taxes currently in place.

Increase the sin taxes by 100%

The cost of living for us and a tourist hotel holiday would change dramatically.

While you are at it get rid of land tax.

Reduce the cost or a vehicle licenses which are the highest on the planet.

This recession will go on for at least 3 more years.

  8. more than enough says:

don’t let these clowns fly under, over, or around the radar .
accountability must come from the top down too.
these are public funds being used here.

how about putting some of this money towards bermudian entertainment?
ain’t nobody going out to the bta at night.
local entertainment(and i’m not talking about gambling) is something that guests will spend their money on. this will also put food on bermudian tables.
    any thoughts on that bill?
    live local entertainment.
    montgomery?

  9. more than enough says:

got your question answered sufficiently mike?
personally, i think its time for bermuda to get off our high horse and lower prices, in order to attract more customers and facilitate gainful employment of bermudians.
marketing to the ultra rich, might work for ib and commercial immigration, but i think it contributed to the demise of tourism here. the entire planet is the rich mans footstool.
many own two or more vacation homes in places like fiji or ibiza. they also have yachts, boats, jet skis, cars, bikes, private jets, private tennis courts, private bowling alleys, private pools, private beaches private islands, private theaters, spas, gyms, bars, kitchens, bartenders, chefs, laundry staff, wait staff etc… etc… anything that you could dream of. and we haven’t even touched on the main residence yet.
the amenities offered here, outside of the natural beauty of our island, and our proximity to the east coast of the usa, pale in comparison to what is already at these peoples fingertips.
they will spend the money if local entertainment is involved. and according to a spending survey, done in relation to travel spending in particular, it was indicated that local entertainment, and food were among the top things travelers spent money on.
i think that hotel room prices should come down, except for the top end rooms, in order to attract more customers. higher occupancy-lower rates.
also with more people coming here maybe flight fares will come down, and government can stop paying for empty seats. this will allow the entire bermuda vacation price to come down, thus making it much more attractive to potential visitors.
more tourists, more entertainment, more jobs.
    happy, happy, happy!

    • more than enough says:

      what you think bill?
you could have that for free.

    • Mike Hind says:

How, exactly, are we going to “Lower Prices”?

Please. Let us know how that’s going to happen.

Are YOU going to take a pay cut?
Bills still need to be paid.

As for marketing to the rich being the downfall? You’re wrong.
First off you’re talking about someone we HAVEN’T been targeting.
We have never focused solely on the ultra, ultra rich.
We HAVE, however, focused on the upper class and upper middle class, knowing that the middle class will follow.

The OPPOSITE of what you’re saying was the downfall. Ignoring those that have traditionally been our target audience and focusing solely on these giant cruise ships has caused the demise of tourism.

The ONLY way to bring prices down is to bring people here.
When we were successful, it was cheap to come here. Not the other way around (i.e. we were successful because it was cheap to come here, get it)

I keep saying it: Instead of lowering prices to match our value, we need to raise our value to match our prices.

On another note, your constant posting is starting to come of as more than a little creepy and obsessive.
As is your “still composing mike” post…

Let’s see if we get a lucid reply out of you on this.

      • more than enough says:

lower profits, cut wages at the top, lower room rates…this ain’t rocket science.
like u said…’we were successful because it was cheap to come here’ my point exactly!
my constant posting was an effort to get a reasonable response on my point of view.or maybe something else of value.
        so much for that idea.

  10. more than enough says:

    still composing mike?

  11. more than enough says:

why does this say presented by the department of tourism at the top?
i thought this department was dismantled.
or is the ‘lone ranger’ of tourism running tings by himself?

  12. more than enough says:

i was under the impression that this was a bta initiative, maybe not.
i am now guessing that this is part of the more pink crap.
    great job being transparent
