New Opportunities For College Students

December 3, 2016

Bermuda College has recently signed two new articulation agreements representing “significant savings and quality academic programmes for BC transfer students.”

A spokesperson said, “Framingham State University and Newbury College are both four-year institutions located in the Boston area of Massachusetts.

“Framingham State University, situated about 20 miles west of Boston, MA, has small personalised classes, and is home to thirteen “Centres of Excellence”, including a Centre for Integrated Science Learning, an Institute for Food and Nutrition, the NASA Resource Centre and the MetroWest STEM Education Network.

“The College’s partnership with Framingham State University will promote and expand international academic opportunities for BC students, such as Science, Technology, Engineering and Math [the STEM areas], Education, Food and Nutrition and Nursing for RNs who have already completed an associate degree.

“The partnership will also include cooperative graduate degree programmes offered on Island through BC; visiting student programmes; and faculty and staff exchange programmes. Bermuda College graduates will also be offered a Geographic Tuition Grant that reduces their tuition to in-state fees, which represents significant savings of approximately $6,000 per year.

“Newbury College is located in Brookline, MA. It recently earned national recognition as a College of Distinction for its innovative application of high impact educational practices.

“Under BC’s agreement with Newbury, BC students graduating from the Associate of Arts [Business Administration], or Associate of Applied Science [Business Administration], will be able to transfer directly into the junior [3rd] year of the BSc in International Business Management or the BSc in Business Management.

“Graduates from the Associate of Applied Science [Hospitality Management] will transfer into the junior year of the Bachelor of Science in Hotel, Restaurant & Service Management [Concentration in Hotel Administration]. Graduates from the Associate in Science [Computer Information Systems] will transfer to the junior year of the Bachelor of Science Computer Science programme.

“Although Newbury College has reviewed and accepted the curriculum for these three areas of study, students interested in other majors are strongly encouraged to apply.

“Similar to the agreement with Framingham State University, Newbury College has also offered a financial incentive in the form of a Merit Scholarship for all students from Bermuda College accepted under the agreement. Each student will receive a minimum $10,000 merit scholarship for the academic year.

“The application fee will also be waived for Bermuda College students.

Bermuda College President Dr. Duranda Greene thanked her Academic & Student Affairs Team for its “diligence and commitment” in negotiating and securing the agreements, which she says “will expand the opportunities for success for BC students.”
