Group Attacks Man At Bernard’s Park

July 24, 2010

Late this morning [July 24] a man was beaten by a group of men at Bernard’s Park. Eyewitnesses tell us that between 5-10 bikes sped on to the field, the riders jumped off, beat the man, and left as quickly as they arrived. Those present tell us that the assailants used their fists, feet and helmets to attack the man, saying they saw no knives or gun used during the attack. We understand the man’s injuries are not extremely serious in nature, nor would be considered life threatening.

Sources say that a man came running towards them and said people were looking for him, and then the group of bikes could be seen speeding on to the field. Eyewitnesses describe the assailants as being fairly young [teens to 20s], and uniformly described the attack as being extremely quick.

There were numerous people in attendence as the area is being set up to host a Youth and Sport event later on, and sources tell us that many women ran, and that children were present. We understand the event may have been cancelled.

We understand the man was taken to King Edward Memorial Hospital via ambulance, and Police attended the scene. We are awaiting the official Police statement now, and will update with it when able.

Update 5:54pm: We apologize, however it appears we may have received misinformation, and the event is going on as planned and/or the were two separate events. As of this time, an event at the location appears to be in full swing, with a large amount of people in attendance.
