PGA Golf: Toms To Replace Injured Oosthuizen
American professional golfer David Toms [pictured] will replace reigning Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen in the field next week at the 28th PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda.
Mr. Oosthuizen, who captured his first major championship at St. Andrews in July, recently damaged ligaments in his left ankle while in his native South Africa. He withdrew from the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship last week at St. Andrews due to the injury, then notified PGA of America officials that he would not be able to compete in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf.
Mr. Toms finished second in the 2001 PGA Grand Slam of Golf, his only previous appearance in the 36-hole event.
He will join U.S. Open Champion Graeme McDowell, PGA Champion Martin Kaymer and three-time major champion Ernie Els in Bermuda. The event, which will be televised in 100 countries around the world, will be played at Port Royal Golf Course from October 18 – 20, 2010.
