This morning [May 18] Health Minister Zane DeSilva officially open this year’s Nursing Expo at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI].
Minister DeSilva said, “I am delighted to be here today to officially open this year’s Nursing Expo here at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute. Nurses are an invaluable part of our healthcare system, and we always need more Bermudians to join the profession. This is especially true when we look toward the future and realize that Bermuda will need an increased number of nurses to care for our ageing population.”
“In fact, indications are that by 2025 the senior population (those over the age of 65) will outnumber the youth population. The event today has 3 main goals. First, to promote nursing as a career option for students, young persons and career changers. Second, to promote advanced nursing education for currently registered nurses. If we are to adequately address the health needs of our changing society and prepare for the emerging challenges, we must do all we can to strengthen the profession. And third, to promote the nursing services available in Bermuda for the public.”
“There are more and more helping professions available to the community all the time, and it is important for the public to understand the roles, functions and scope of practice for nursing. In closing I would like to thank the Bermuda Nurses Association for hosting this event today and indeed for all the work they have done this month in promoting May as Nurses Month,” concluded the Minister.
