Football: U12 Girls Place 2nd In Disney Finals

July 23, 2012

Bermuda’s flag was hoisted high on the podium in recognition of BBFS U12 girls on Saturday [July 21] after the Disney Cup Final in Florida. The U12 girls lost a very close match against FRAIGCOMAR of Peurto Rico, going down 2-1 in a very exciting and balanced match.

BBFS started brightly and went ahead via a Teyah Lindo goal to lead 1-0 after 20 minutes. Just before the half ended, Lindo had to receive treatment for a sore ankle and Fraigcomar scored to make it 1-1.

The second half saw BBFS battle to take the lead but there were very few chances for a goal-scoring opportunity for both teams. With 5 minutes to go FRAIGCOMAR went ahead 2-1. The U12 girls forged forward but FRAIGCOMAR’s defense held on to clinch the U12 Girls Disney Cup.

Coach Shawnette Perott [U12 girls] commented, “I am very proud of my team and they fought hard. Every match was a tough game and they earned their silver medal. The overseas exposure will aid them in their development to provide them with international competition. It has always been my personal ambition to advance the level of Bermuda’s female players.”

A BBFS spokesperson said, “After 6 days of football, 3 semi-finals and 1 final, our journey to the Disney Cup has ended. We arrived with 52 players, 5 coaches, 4 teams and 23 supporters. All reached the semis or final cup game and everyone has enjoyed the events, theme parks, camaraderie and is looking forward to returning to Bermuda with 57 medals.”
