Caribbean Fire Chiefs Conference A Success
From November 28 to December 2, the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service hosted the Caribbean Association of Fire Chiefs [CAFC] conference at the Fairmont Southampton, with representatives from 18 islands attending.
“The conference was a resounding success as Fire Chiefs and Junior Leaders from 18 Caribbean islands attended and participated in classes to discuss and learn different strategies and ideas for handling emergency incidents,” the BFRS said.
“Various vendors of emergency equipment were also in attendance and were allowed to showcase their wares to the attendees of the conference.
“At the conference our local Chief Fire Officer, Mr. Reginald L. Burchall, was promoted from his position of Vice-President to President of the Association where he will be required to carry out duties for a minimum of two years.
“CFO Burchall was humbled and honored to be handed the role of President and looks forward to the many challenges and opportunities that the role may bring.
“At the conclusion of the conference there was a firefighter challenge during which firefighters from all over the Caribbean and Bermuda competed in a number of events which exercised and tested their firefighting skills and strength.
“One of our local firefighters, Mr. David Lambert, came away victorious and will be required to attend the next conference, to be held in St. Thomas, to defend his title.
“The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service would like to thank the sponsors that were a part of the conference being a success, such as Freisenbruch Meyer, Globe, Marketplace, Arnolds and BK Wholesale.”
Nice diversity.
