Unattended Pot On Stove Results In Fire

The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a house fire in Hamilton Parish this afternoon [March 30], with the fire caused by an unattended pot left on the stove.

The BFRS said, “At approximately 1:00pm on Thursday, March 30, the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of a fire at a residence on Sleepy Hollow Drive in Hamilton Parish.

Fire Service spokesperson Staff Officer Delton White stated that “The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of a house fire in Hamilton Parish. We responded with 1 vehicle and 4 personnel.

“On our arrival we found remnants of smoke from a fire contained in a kitchen caused by an unattended pot left on the stove. The residents of the house had extinguished the fire before our arrival. Two men dressed in full breathing apparatus entered the residence to ensure the fire had been completely extinguished.

“Firefighters then assisted with ventilating the residence to remove the smoke. There were no injuries as a result of the fire, however, there was minor fire and smoke damage to the kitchen and minor smoke damage to other parts of the residence.”

“Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service would like to take this opportunity to remind the public to practice care and safety in the home when using appliances that can cause fire. At no time should an appliance be left unattended when in operation.”
