100WF Holds Career-Building Presentation

May 16, 2020

100 Women in Finance’s [100WF] last physical event featured a presentation by Bermudian author and professional coach Lorene Phillips on “three principles to help guide them on a lifelong journey to a resilient and genuinely rewarding career.”

A spokesperson said, “100 Women in Finance’s last physical event was aptly, if not somewhat premonitorially focused around building resilience, helping young business professionals gain insights into developing their career as they tap in to the authenticity and values that matter to them most.

“During the interactive workshop, which was sponsored by Bermuda Compliance Consultants Ltd., attendees learned how to identify, develop, and apply three principles to help guide them on a lifelong journey to a resilient and genuinely rewarding career.

“The talk, aimed at younger business professionals in Bermuda, which often referred to as the Next Generation [or NextGen], was presented by Bermudian author and professional coach Lorene Phillips, who offers a goal-orientated process designed to help individuals to achieve professional and personal growth.

“Lorene Phillips, a published author, wife, and mother of three, who has an established career with a 25-year track record of success as an international underwriter in the male-dominated world of re/insurance, has launched a new coaching business called Clarendon Wallace, based in Hamilton.

“During her presentation, Lorene gave advice on three rules to break, which, when simply put, asks you to have fun, remove the fear of failure, and to care for oneself.”

How to Build a Resilient Career Bermuda May 14 2020

Ms. Phillips said, “Building your professional resilience allows you to create a career that will bend but not break, where you bounce back quickly after a set-back all whilst carving out a career path that is authentically you.  I shared 3 practical principles to help participants develop the skill of Ireselience so they can create the kind of career they desire in the long-term.”

Alison Morrison, Managing Director and founder of Bermuda Compliance Consultants Ltd., Chair of the 100 Women in Finance Committee in Bermuda, and event sponsor said, “We were delighted to welcome Lorene to speak to our Next Gen members about such an important topic and her practical advice and guidance was particularly relevant to all members regardless of where they are in their career journey.

“At the time Lorene spoke to our NextGen members in early March we had no idea what was ahead of us and the struggle that many are facing in their personal and professional lives. Her guidance and advice was particularly relevant and especially now where there is so much uncertainty as to what the future holds.

“Identifying your values and staying true to what is important to you is a powerful message for us all to live by.”

The spokesperson said, “Our aim for 100 Women in Finance’s NextGen initiative is to offer peer networking and educational opportunities to young women within the financial services industry in Bermuda.

“Although the last two months have presented challenges, we believe that creating these educational opportunities have become more important than ever, giving young women opportunities to connect and collaborate on various themes affecting their age group.

“We plan to continue to offer topics related to career progression, mentorship fostering, and team building, however these events will now be pivoted onto the 100 Women in Finance’s webinar platform. These conversations are desperately needed and we look forward to cultivating these opportunities for existing and prospective NextGen members alike.”
