Children 12 And Above Can Receive A Booster

January 17, 2022

“The booster vaccine is now available to anyone 12 or older who has had their second Covid vaccination dose a minimum of 6 months ago,” the Ministry advised this evening.

In releasing today’s test results, a Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Health advises that children 12 and above can receive a booster if it has been 6 months from their last dose.”

Minister of Health Kim Wilson said, “We are pleased to announce today that the booster vaccine is now available to anyone 12 or older who has had their second Covid vaccination dose a minimum of 6 months ago. I strongly urge everyone eligible to please get your booster as soon as possible.

“Anyone wishing a booster vaccine can book an appointment on www.gov.bm by selecting “Book a Booster Vaccine Appointment.” They may also call the Vaccination Hotline at 444-2498 [option #2] or e-mail vaccine@gov.bm. Those aged 65 and older can walk into Pier 6 on Front Street for a booster, Monday to Friday.”

As far as vaccinations for younger children, there might be an announcement on that this week, as when asked last week about vaccinations for 5 – 11 year olds, the Premier said there could be an announcement ‘next week.’

  1. Question says:

Why would a healthy child of 12 need a booster? It’s Omicron.
The benefits don’t match up with the risks.

    • sandgrownan says:

More anti vax nonsense. Go back to watching TV and surfing the internet.

      • Red Pill says:

You gotta have a vaccine in order to be an anti-vaxxer. When are you and the rest of the sheep going to wake up. It’s the TV that has you dumb down.

You mean act like the vaccinated elite??

You mean act like the vaccinated elite?

      • question says:

I get how a 65-year-old retired guy would not see the threat of myocarditis to a teenage boy as being significant.

        • sandgrownan says:

In Scandinavia, where this risk was first identified and there was a moratorium on the Moderna vaccine for a while in young men specifically, the studies did point out that myocarditis was much more of a risk for people with COVID. And that the best way to prevent a COVID infection was by being vaccinated.

Holy God, you people are brainwashed! What a load of crap!

            • Sandgrownan says:

Facts don’t care what you think

              • Question says:

There are still bans or restrictions for MRNA vaccines for young men in Germany, France, Icelans, Sweden, Norway, Finland, etc.
2nd dose risk of myocarditis for a healthy young man is 1 in 4,000. That is much higher than the risk from covid to someone in the same group.

                • sandgrownan says:

You need to dig deeper. Myocarditis is an extremely rare condition anyway.

CDC say, the chance of myocarditis post second jab is around 20-40 per million. So, averaged out 0.003%.

Risk of myocarditis as a result of COVID infection, is around 145 per 100,000 cases…or around 0.14%.

Whatever your thoughts on vaccinations are, risk of myocarditis is not a valid reason for avoiding vaccination.

                  • Question says:

You’re missing the whole point. Myocarditis is supposed to be extremely rare, particularly in healthy young men.
The risk to a man under 30 of developing myocarditis after the second dose of MRNA vaccine is 1 in 4,000.
If you keep responding with the risk to the general population, on a survey that was done 6 months ago, you are just exposing the fact that you don’t understand the first thing you’re talking about.

                    • Sandgrownan says:

                      *sigh*

The point I’m mailing is that the risk of contracting myocarditis as a result of COVID is two magnitudes – in other words, it’s still better to be vaccinated if you are worried about myocarditis. It’s not a valid argument for not being vaccinated

                    • question says:

You’re wrong. To a healthy young male, it is not ‘better to be vaccinated’ if you’re worried about myocarditis, according to the data you have offered.

            • sandgrownan says:

On June 23, 2021, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices concluded that the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination clearly outweighed the risks for myocarditis after vaccination (6). The present study supports this recommendation by providing evidence of an elevated risk for myocarditis among persons of all ages with diagnosed COVID-19.

So, 30 to 40 cases potentially per million second vaccine doses.

The risk for myocarditis among patients with COVID-19 during March 2020–January 2021 was nearly 16 times as high as the risk among patients without COVID-19, with the association between COVID-19 and myocarditis being most pronounced among children and older adults. Further, in this cohort, approximately 40% of patients with myocarditis had a history of COVID-19.

COVID-19 is strongly associated with myocarditis – In adjusted analyses, patients with COVID-19 had, on average, 15.7 (95% CI = 14.1–17.2) times the risk for myocarditis compared with patients without COVID-19.

From a pure risk perspective, it’s still better to be vaccinated.

              • Question says:

“30 to 40 cases per million doses” is the way it looked in June 2021 across the whole population. It tells you nothing about what the risk of myocarditis is, specifically, to a healthy young man.
We now know the risk to a young man, and in the case of 2nd doses of MRNA, the risk to that specific group is 1 in 4,000.
Compare that with the minimal risk to that same group from the omicron variant.
It’s for these reasons that, as I’ve repeatedly said, many governments have either banned, or are being very selective in how they deploy, MRNA vaccines to healthy young men.

                • Sandgrownan says:

The data doesn’t support that decision.

                • Sandgrownan says:

                  Factually incorrect.

                  • question says:

                    Nope. Factuslly correct.
Measuring the incidence over the whole population does not tell you the incidence of risk for a specific group. That’s the problem.

                    • Sandgrownan says:

I fully understand the point you are making. But your conclusion is incorrect.

                    • sandgrownan says:

So..I got up, and did some reading. I have no idea where 1 in 4000 came from, but it’s incorrect.

Risk of Myocarditis after COIVD vaccine:

                      USA – 6 per million
                      Isreal – 8 per 100,000
                      Canada – 173 per million

Different reporting methodologies unfortunately. Still better to be vaccinated than not.

                    • question says:

The 6 per million number is the purported risk across the whole population, and was counted when the US vaccinated population was heavily skewed towards the elderly. Therefore is completely irrelevant.

Your Israel number ’8 per million’= one in 125,000.
The actual number in the Israel study published in NEJM was 1 in 7,200, for 2nd dose. For males aged 16-19 years old. So either you can’t read, or you’re just carelessly quoting wrong numbers.

Assuming your rate of 173 per million is right in Canada, it sounds like the Ontario study, that’s 1 in 5,780.

So the Israel and Canada studies are in the 1 in 6,000-7,000 range. Not trivial.

Studies that look at Moderna have worse results.

      • aceboy says:

You know…you are not helping anything or anyone with the constant anti vaxxer comments. In fact you probably harden the resolve of those you are seeking to vilify. Perhaps you should stfu?

        • sandgrownan says:

Probably not. And really it doesn’t matter, right up to the point I or a loved can’t get medical help because all the beds are full in the hospital, or surgeries are cancelled or postponed. Or my kids can’t go to school, or I can’t travel.

          So, yeah, if I lived in a bubble I wouldn’t care, but I don’t. So I do.

          • Question says:

We have two thousand cases, that we know about, and 13 people in hospital. You’d have to be a total bedwetter to think the hospital is going to be overrun. Omicron is causing less problems than the average winter flu.
You are not being prevented from travelling. In fact, getting out more might do you some good.
The facts about myocarditis risks are becoming more evident. A number of countries have banned or restricted MRNA vaccines in young men as a result – Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Germany, France, for example. Because of a real, serious risk you choose to completely ignore, along with Bermuda’s health authorities.

            • sandgrownan says:

The fact about myocarditis is that you are more likely to get it with COVID than with the vaccine. And further, the vaccine is the best way to avoid getting COVID.

              • Question says:

According to the UK HSA, infections rates per 100,000 of population in all age groups over 30 are much higher among the vaccinated than in the unvaccinated.

                • sandgrownan says:

Mathematically, it’s better to be vaccinated than not.

Go put the tin foil back on your head and return to watching the hunt for bigfoot.

                  • Question says:

If you think you’re better off being vaccinated, go ahead.

Mathematically, much of the population is better off bring vaccinated. But mathematically, some of it isn’t.

Try understanding the discussion, rather than making childish comments about foil hats.

          • aceboy says:

Well well well. Now who is spreading misinformation? We are in the middle of a “surge” that shows cases higher than the first wave and yet there are beds available in the hospital. My kids have been home from school overseas and back a bunch of times since this nonsense started. I am personally likely headed for surgery soon but I did have a colonoscopy under general last year. You ARE living in a self created fear bubble and are trying to make everyone join you.

            • sandgrownan says:

Hospitalised COVID cases have more than doubled in the UK since December.

We have a much much more unhealthy population.

Personally, I don’t care, I really don’t. My family is all vaccinated, healthy and takes appropriate precautions. But I won’t stand for any anti-vax it’s just a cold bollocks from anyone.

              • Kathy says:

You are a complete conformist….all for your own convenience and freedom!

          • Kathy says:

Wow and you think the anti vaxx are selfish!

        • Question says:

          He has an irrational obsession.

          • sandgrownan says:

This pandemic has highlighted the most irrational arguments, amongst them that of the anti-vax movement.

It really is stupid. It’s beyond comprehension.

I refer you to George Carlin. This is why we have Brexit, Trump, repeated PLP governments…

            • Kathy says:

I also refer you to George Carlin…look up his youtube video called “GERMS”…! This is why we have vaccine dummies.

            • Question says:

No, the stupidity is to have useless Safekeys and restrictions, when they make no difference whatsoever.

              • sandgrownan says:

                Agree, Safekey now is pointless.

              • sandgrownan says:

Ah, you’re shifting the discussion from vaccines to SafeKey. Usual, move the goalposts tactic.

                • Question says:

                  Safekeys and vaccines aren’t related?

I’m quite willing to discuss vaccines. See the post above responding to your irrelevant data about myocarditis.

    • Joe Bloggs says:

You say “It’s Omicron” as if it is not COVID-19, the same virus that has killed in excess of 5.5 million people in the last 2 years.

Please pay attention to what is happening around you.

      • Question says:

I think we can see who is not paying attention.

      • sandgrownan says:

In Australia, the data shows that for Australia’s third large Covid wave, older Australians continue to be overrepresented in the death toll, even as younger Australians record far more cases.

And in New South Wales, where more detailed data is available, the protective effect of vaccines remains clear, with serious outcomes – deaths and ICU admission – far less likely for vaccinated people with Covid, across every age group.
