Women’s Football: PHC & Footy Queens Win
The Bermuda Football Association’s Women’s League got underway yesterday [May 6] at the BFA field, with PHC taking on YMSC, followed by Footy Queens vs Dandy Stars.
Chair of the Women’s Committee Charryse Bean previously said, “The Women’s Committee is excited to start back up the Women’s Football League. We strategically planned for this to happen at this very time and are grateful for all who trusted the process in this development. As the 6 teams take the field this weekend, we want to first take a moment to remember the players of the past and then look forward to the bright future of Women’s Football in Bermuda.”
PHC Lady Zebras 8 – Young Men Social Club 0
In the opener, the PHC Lady Zebras defeated Young Men Social Club 8 – 0.
Taznae Fubler got the scoring started in the 4th minute, the PHC Lady Zebras doubled the score six minutes later when Akeyla Furbert scored. In the 14th minute Destiny Minors made it 3 – 0, and then two minutes later Fubler scored her second and her team’s fourth goal of the game.
In the 23rd minute, Furbert scored to make it 5 – 0, with Minors finding the back of the net for a second time in the 26th minute making it 6 – 0, and Azra Shakir scored in the 28th minute to put the PHC Lady Zebras ahead 7 – 0.
Only one goal was scored in the second half as Minors completed her hat-trick with a strike in the 55th minute.
Footy Queens 4 – Dandy Stars 1
In the nightcap, the Footy Queens defeated the Dandy Stars 4 – 1.
The Footy Queens jumped out to a 3 – 0 lead after 29 minutes, as Donte Allen scored in the 11th minute, Deshae Darrell scored in the 18th minute, and then Allen scored her second of the game in the 29th minute, but the Dandy Stars pulled a goal back one minute later when Emoy Holdipp Lynch scored.
In the second half, the Footy Queens scored the lone goal of the half when Darrell scored her second in the 63rd minute to earn them a 4 – 1 win.
