Ball Hockey: Spine & Sport And ACT Win
The Bermuda Ball Hockey Winter League opened its season with a doubleheader at the PCC Hockey Rink, highlighted by a shootout thriller and a late comeback attempt.
Spine & Sport Wins Shootout Thriller
In the first game, Spine & Sport defeated CG 7-6 in a sudden-death shootout after mounting a third-period comeback.
CG established a commanding lead, with Jeremy Estey recording a hat-trick. Nathan Kowalski, Andrew Leavy and Dallas Montgomery also scored for CG.
Spine & Sport rallied from the deficit, scoring four unanswered goals in the final period to force overtime. Mathieu Desjardins led the charge with a hat-trick, while Christopher Merritt scored twice. A substitute player also scored during the third-period rally.
After a scoreless overtime period, Christopher Merritt scored the decisive goal in the shootout to secure the 7-6 victory for Spine & Sport.
ACT Edges Positive Image Dental 5-4
In the second match, ACT secured a 5-4 victory over Positive Image Dental.
ACT led 2-1 after the first period with goals from Shane Matchett and Samuel Vieira, while Jordan Gunter scored for Positive Image Dental.
ACT extended its lead to 5-3 by the end of the second period, receiving goals from Mike Travis, a second from Vieira and one from Anthony Kapsimalis. Louis Sujir scored for Positive Image Dental.
Positive Image Dental closed the gap in the final period when Sujir scored his second goal of the game, but ACT held on for the 5-4 win.
