Group Plans Emergency Community Gathering

Various community organizations have come together to organize an emergency Community Conference out of a series of events and conversations in response to the murder of Joshua Robinson at Jason’s Barbershop.

This is planned for Friday, July 20th from 9.30 – 12.30 pm at the assembly hall of Bermuda High School on Richmond Road. The theme is “Renewal – Transforming our community challenges”.

A spokesperson said, “The event is being pulled together very quickly in light of the fact that the recent incident has taken matters to a new level. Since we are quickly approaching ‘vacation season’, we believed that it is prudent to use the near term to foster dialogue and build new bridges while strengthening old ones.

“The gathering will given opportunities to share the stories of current programs that our strengthening the fabric of our families and neighbourhoods. This will include input from some of our denominations and other community groups that have mature free grocery programs that have supported families for a number of years. There are also new programs that are covering new ground.

“It is clear that our island is experiencing extraordinary times, as evidenced at the barbershop on that Saturday. Consequently this Community Conference will use some extraordinary approaches in inviting attendees to get ourselves outside our proverbial boxes. This will help us move take the challenge – the adventure – of moving to new waters.

“We already have committed to attend, members of community organizations, some Government agencies, Faith leaders and representatives from the business and labour sector.
