46-Yr-Old Man Charged With Touching Young Boy
In Magistrates Court this morning [Feb 1] a 46-year-old man was charged with offences that alleged he touched a child under 12-years-old for sexual purposes. The defendant — who cannot be named for legal reasons — had his trial date set for May 2013.
Represented by lawyer Victoria Pearman and appearing in front of Magistrate Archie Warner, the defendant was bailed for $6,000 and ordered to stay away from witnesses, report to Hamilton Police Station every Monday and not to associate with minors under 16. The offences are alleged to have occurred earlier this month.

The simple fact that the sentances are usually a joke only serves to encourage this behavior, which I should add is widespread! Most cases go unreported.

It is pretty interesting. I’m wondering if there has been in increase in the crime or an increase in the reporting. I hope it is the latter.

Miguel was found guilty. This trial is still ongoing.
It’s good that more of these cases seem to be making the headlines because perhaps the taboo around the subject is being lifted somewhat and we are empowering our children to speak up.
Either that or we have WAY more sick individuals running around that we used to.
In any event, maybe Minister Fahy can pull some strings and have that Sex Offenders Registry the OBA promised up and running “effective immediately”. The longer it is delayed the more of these predators who can potentially slip through the safety net we must put in place for our children.
@BermyGooner …. i agree, but i dont think any of this sort of thing is “new” or just starting to happen in Bermuda. i just think more and more people are getting brave enough to come forward about it. The worst part about it is, there are MANY more kids who are made to believe the behaviour is OK…. and who’s abusers are STILL abusing them.
Absolutely scary stuff that so many of them are lurking out there and continue to committ their filth. Sex offenders register is something that is needed, unfortunately, in this island nowadays.

Everyone has a right to get bailed, however for certain serious allegations I say no bail sheesh. I guess if he killed a dangerous dog he’d be remanded in custody, talk about inconsistencies in the judicial process smdh.

Shame that there are so many laws that protect them….I bet you they would think twice if they knew they would be named and their picture put in the paper…..Lawyers should turn them away and make them defend themselves…..
I believe that their name can only be published once their convicted. Not before then. This is to protect the victim during the trail process.

Tricks hit the nail right on the head. If I was a lawyer and one of these sickos walked in my door. I would say there is the door I am booked until eternity. As for some of these cases its not always possible to link the accused to the victim. If that was the case there should be no shortage of witnesses to help the victim. The Judges need to get real and look at the victim as their own flesh and blood. I bet you will not see a bail prior to the case or any type of parole after the sentencing either. chances are the man is either a close relative, or otherwise in a position of trust. If you suspect your husband, boyfriend, son, nephew, uncle, music teacher, boy scout leader, football coach displays a tendency to be ‘overly involved’ with a child, please take ask questions
