Climate Change Rally Set For This Friday

July 17, 2019

Greenrock and Fridays for Future Bermuda has formed the Greenrock Youth Council and will hold a climate change rally in Hamilton on Friday [July 19] from 11.30am to 1.30pm.

A spokesperson said, “Greenrock has formed a Youth Council to provide young environmental advocates and green entrepreneurs with a platform to express their interests, proposed solutions and collective concerns to our government, local businesses and the community at large.

“The council will also serve as a central hub for young leaders to collaborate with like minded peers, share ideas, raise awareness, organize initiatives, and provide support to one another when it is time to make a stand.

“The creation of the Greenrock Youth Council was inspired by the actions of two 15 year old advocates, Salayah Stange and Katarina Rance, who organized their first school strike and climate rally for local students on Friday, May 23.

“On Friday, June 14, they organized an even larger school strike and climate rally and, at the moment, they are in the midst of planning their third climate rally from Nellie’s Walk to the Cabinet Office this Friday, July 19 from 11:30am to 1:30pm.”

F4F Climate Rally July 19 2019

“The rallies have all been organized in conjunction with the #FridaysForFuture movement started in 2018 by then 15-year-old student Greta Thunburg, who sat in front of the Swedish parliament every school day for three weeks, to protest against the lack of action on the climate crisis.

“She posted what she was doing on Instagram and Twitter and it soon went viral. Today Greta continues to strike in front of Parliament every Friday, and she plans to do so until the Swedish Government brings its policies in line with the Paris Agreement.

“Like Greta, members of the Greenrock Youth Council would like to see our Government engage more actively in policies, legislation and initiatives geared toward reversing the harmful effects of climate change. The current objectives of the council are as follows:

“1. Encourage our government to declare a Climate State of Emergency “we need to address climate change like a house on fire”

“2. Encourage our government to set renewable energy targets i.e. 70% renewables by 2040

“3. Encourage our government to ban all single use plastics and styrofoam “we are creatures of habit who have proven, on many occasions, that we only tend to change when we have to”

“As these objectives are realized, others will be prioritized by the youth council as the members continuously work toward creating a more sustainable future for Bermuda. Key members of the youth council are Salayah Stange and Katarina Rance [co chairs and legislation], Kristy Sanchez [admin], Anjelina Chandrasekaran [membership], Tomasina Pearman [graphic design], Chris Skinner [social media], and Jodie Curtis [renewable energy and carbon emissions].

“If you are interested in joining the youth council or participating in the climate rallies, call 747-7625, send an email to f4fbermuda@gmail.com, or Instagram @greenrock or @fridaysforfuturebda19.”

    What “climate emergency?”

Scientists Find “Man-made Climate Change Doesn’t Exist In Practice” by Tyler Durden
    Fri, 07/12/2019

A new scientific study could bust wide open deeply flawed fundamental assumptions underlying controversial climate legislation and initiatives such as the Green New Deal, namely, the degree to which ‘climate change’ is driven by natural phenomena vs. man-made issues measured as carbon footprint. Scientists in Finland found “practically no anthropogenic [man-made] climate change” after a series of studies.

    >>> “During the last hundred years the temperature increased about 0.1°C because of carbon dioxide. The human contribution was about 0.01°C”, the Finnish researchers bluntly state in one among a series of papers. <<<

This has been collaborated by a team at Kobe University in Japan, which has furthered the Finnish researchers' theory: "New evidence suggests that high-energy particles from space known as galactic cosmic rays affect the Earth's climate by increasing cloud cover, causing an 'umbrella effect'," the just published study has found, a summary of which has been released in the journal Science Daily. The findings are hugely significant given this 'umbrella effect' — an entirely natural occurrence — could be the prime driver of climate warming, and not man-made factors.

CEI Files Formal Complaint Regarding NASA's Claim of 97% Climate Scientist Agreement on Global Warming

LIBERTARIAN GROUP DEMANDS NASA REMOVE FALSE '97 PERCENT CONSENSUS' GLOBAL WARMING CLAIM
    By Tyler O'Neil July 10, 2019

On Tuesday, the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) sent NASA a formal complaint, asking the agency to withdraw the false claim that 97 percent of climate scientists agree that humans are the primary cause of global warming and climate change. THE 2013 STUDY PURPORTING TO DEMONSTRATE THAT NUMBER WAS FATALLY FLAWED AND PROVED NO SUCH THING.

"THE CLAIM THAT 97% OF CLIMATE SCIENTISTS BELIEVE HUMANS ARE THE PRIMARY CAUSE OF GLOBAL WARMING IS SIMPLY FALSE," CEI ATTORNEY DEVIN WATKINS SAID IN A STATEMENT. "THAT FIGURE WAS CREATED ONLY BY IGNORING MANY CLIMATE SCIENTISTS’ VIEWS, INCLUDING THOSE OF UNDECIDED SCIENTISTS. IT IS TIME THAT NASA CORRECT THE RECORD AND PRESENT UNBIASED FIGURES TO THE PUBLIC."

According to the CEI complaint, NASA's decision to repeat the false claim violated the Information Quality Act (IQA). Specifically, NASA claimed that "[n]inety-seven percent of climate scientists agree that climate-warming trends over the past century are extremely likely due to human activities." The claim appears on the NASA website on the page "Climate Change: How Do We Know?"

The claim traces back to a study led by John Cook entitled "Quantifying the consensus on anthropogenic global warming in the scientific literature" and published in the journal Environmental Research Letters in 2013.

The study is fundamentally dishonest, as the CEI complaint explains. The study analyzed all published peer-reviewed academic research papers from 1991 to 2011 that use the terms "global warming" or "global climate change." The study placed the papers into seven categories: explicit endorsement with quantification, saying humans are responsible for 50+ percent of climate change; explicit endorsement without quantification; implicit endorsement; no position or uncertain; implicit rejection; explicit rejection with qualification; and explicit rejection without qualification.

The study — and the 97 percent figure that depends on it — is fatally flawed, and NASA has 120 days to respond to the CEI complaint. It is far past time people reject this false claim.

      Oh please!

“THE CLAIM THAT 97% OF CLIMATE SCIENTISTS BELIEVE HUMANS ARE THE PRIMARY CAUSE OF GLOBAL WARMING IS SIMPLY FALSE,”

      YOU ARE AN IDIOT!

      • LOL says:

Kathy, try reading a few of the 97% papers and get some basic subject matter knowledge. From Zimmerman:

        Which sounds more impressive?
        1. 97.4% of climate scientists believe in AGW;
        or;
        2. 75 out of 10,257 qualified earth scientists surveyed believe in AGW. (.731%)

        Please pick 1 or 2.

        Thank you.

    • bluenose says:

LOL? Were you laughing out loud when you put this post together?

      • LOL says:

Yes, I am laughing at all the people who believe in AGW without having ever read any of the actual research papers.

    • Question says:

The ‘97% of all scientists’ claim is bogus. It is thrown around as though it’s a ‘fact’, when it is not a fact, and never was. It’s things like this, which is easily refuted, that give ammunition to sceptics.

  2. Here we go again.
I remember in 1974 or 1973. Maybe 1972. Any way we were in primary school, Southampton Glebe and we built this huge “monster” out of cardboard, a Bay Grape leaves with a huge mouth and eyes. We were supposed to feed this monster with cans and plastic and cardboard. Know why? Climate change. The world was going into a freeze if we didn’t do due diligence with recycling all recyclables.

So, much like the weather(climate) all this “crisis” talk is cyclical.

  3. Me says:

Can they get em turn down de heat my lekalite bill is diculous

  4. Ben S says:

Nice – 2 hours of virtue signalling by people who drive their G and H class cars into town every day, enjoy the latest iPhone, jet away on 2 and 3 vacations a year, fully air-condition their homes, and enjoy boating every weekend pushing the twin 300hp outboards to full throttle. Climate State of Emergency…I think not. Makes them feel like they are doing something I suppose.

    • LOL says:

Thank you for pointing out the hypocrisy of it all.

      • Ben S says:

Yup. I see Government want to eliminate “single-use” plastics within a couple of years. I certainly hope they properly research this as there will be unintended negative consequences. Will plastic shopping bags be included in this crusade? Not sure why because almost everyone I know reuses these plastic bags several times – not exactly single-use like a plastic trash bag. Wait, plastic trash bags will be banned too??
