  1. stunned... says:

don’t bother going. there will be no new information as it has already been explained:

no, we didn’t put the job out to tender. the guy was recommended by some guy connected to another guy and we went with it.

no, we didn’t concern ourselves with the details.

hey, we were told to get a pga course ready for play and that’s what we did.

    case closed. next!

I agree with you stunned… While I’m not looking for my pound of flesh, or calling for imprisonment; I very much doubt this investigation will accomplish anything other than lack of accountability from peoples entrusted with Government money; and even at that, NO-ONE will at least be SHAMED.
If this was the real world, no manager (CFO) would get away with this. They would be fired or at the least suspended from their job. The fact that we are to be given a lot of hot air really shows this process to be a waste of time. Over-runs; you have got to be kidding right?

  2. bluebird says:

were they able to find out how the $4Million project went to $24Million??

    • Jus Wonderin' says:

      Ask you know who lol…

    • Jadon says:

Yes they were supposed to re-do 4 holes… then it went to 14… then it went to 16… then it went to the whole course…. then they wanted a new club house…. then they wanted a new maintenance shed.. then they wanted it all good enough for the PGA…

Have you ever built a house … Let me ask you these questions now…..

D&J did Belmont… By the time they finished quadrupled their budget !!!!!

L.F. Wade – was supposed to be 9 mil went to 25 mil

Westgate – 20 mil went to 39 mil

Tynes Bay 26 mil went to 74 Mil!!!

Don’t hear anything about those do you ??? POrt Royal is just a distraction!! Wake up ppl! 96% if not more of projects go over budget!!!

      • Bermyman says:

And that is why we did not Tender the Airport!

    • Tolerate says:

      @bluebird, “THEY DON’T CARE!!!!!!!”

  3. Raymond Ray says:

After having sat in on one of these, “PAC Meetings” I would suggest to anyone wishing to hear first-hand what did happen or what was suppose to happen go and get into that Chamber as early as possible because seats are limited.
(Approximately 15,(if that)for,”we the general public” to come sit and only listen.)

  4. aceboy says:

No. Not enough financial information is available.

Strange how the PLP members were able to unapologetically claim Bermuda got value for money when the Auditor General was unable to say where it went or how it was accounted for.

  5. Triangle Drifter says:

Have they figured out where that over spend went & how to recover it?

  6. Kangoocar says:

How many wasted meetings are going to be held, concerning this matter???? Any one with at least half a brain knows what went on??? Just make those responsible liable for what they did, it really is that simple!!!!! The stalling practices of the burt/ plp needs to stop!!! They wasted time and money when in power and they still are doing it!!!

  7. We all know who was involved and responsible for over runs ,mismanagement and payments to certain people in charge of the purse strings at the time . Believe me this is just another political meeting ,no one will be made responsible and no one will be held accountable !!! It is time we the people hold the judicial system and the elected politicians feet to the fire and make them do there job and let them know WE THE PEOPLE ARE THERE BOSS and they better do there job or else !!!!!!

  8. Ringmaster says:

The course was close to being finished after $14m had been spent and the PGA visited and after inspecting it said they were very pleased with the course at that time. Why then did $10m in addition still need to have been spent, when the PGA were satisfied after $14m had been spent? What was this additional $10m buy? Good to see PAC discuss this but is that all they will do – talk again and again? Will an inquiry commence to continue the work of the Auditor General and get finality to this matter?

  9. Lois Frederick says:

The new justification for the overruns by the plp is a report that documents the overruns of the UBP and the plp. The trick shot is they only refer to the percentages, not the dollar amounts and suggest that the plp was no worse than the UBP. Hardly! The missing critical information, is the dollar amounts of the overruns. The reason why the UBP overruns are of considerably less concern, is that even though the UBP projects did go over budget, sometimes by a lot, the UBP STILL ENDED THE FINANCIAL YEAR WITH A BALANCED BUDGET, year after year, unlike the plp. The manageable debt created by the UBP was minimal and we could afford it. The opposite is true of the plp. They ran overruns on numerous projects, on borrowed money and ended up practically bankrupting Bermuda in the process. The figures back me up. So, everyone be ready for the justification of their bad deeds, as they start to massage the truth to create their own version of what happened, in the build up to the climax of what will have been 3 years of intense scrutiny.

  10. non marriner says:

Did the Boat owners pay for out of duty and registration fees for the greens and flags?

  11. longbay trading says:

WHY? what is the point? An exercise in non investigation in any real or meaningful terms. A total farce.

    • Tolerate says:

And that my friend is the “PAC”. How long we wait for this? Like the dog on my porch; lot of noise but NO bite…..
