Sunday August 16th: “Good News” Spotlight

News that Jessica Lewis won Bermuda’s first Parapan gold medal in record breaking style, a 9-year-old donating $275 to Keep Bermuda Beautiful after hosting her own mini marine clean-up, Bermudian singer Twanée appearing on an episode of the television show “Power,” and the Bermuda U14 cricket team opening its United Kingdom tour with a win were all some of the positive news stories from the past week.

Other good news stories included local author Rosheena Beek holding her first international book signings in New York, footballer Freddy Hall’s “heroics” leading to a win for his club, Matthew Oliveira winning two silver medals in the Dominican Republic, Sam Resnik being named IMG Baseball MVP, and the Bermuda Hotel Association announcing the awardees of its annual scholarships.

In additional good news, Bermuda will be the host of the 2015 Flying Phantom Series, swimmer Jesse Washington claimed gold and broke a record, seven students received Dr. Ball scholarships, Dante Leverock scored for Harrisburg City while Nahki Wells scored against Blackburn Rovers, the Bermuda’s Girls Youth National Basketball Team returned to Bermuda as the top team at the Keystone Tournament, and the Sir Harry D. Butterfield undergraduate and Sir A. Dudley Spurling Postgraduate Scholarships were awarded to Jade Robinson and Brittany Hassell, respectively.

    How refreshing ! Positive News instead of Negative News.

    That’s what Bermuda should be all about – because there is more positive than negative, and we need to highlight it and show our pride in our beautiful Island and its people.
