April 24, 2016

In the second in a series of profiles of the young men competing in this year’s Alpha Beautillion, we spotlight Saltus Grammar School student Alfred Eugene “Trey” Maybury III.

His profile, courtesy of the Alphas, says: “Alfred Eugene [“Trey”] Maybury III was born in the early hours of November 19, 1999, at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. He is the proud son of Alfred [Jr.] and Gina Maybury, and brother to G’ané [Janae] Everheart and Bria Maybury.

“As a young child, he attended Warwick Preschool and later the West Pembroke Primary School, where he was Head Boy.

“In 2010, Trey began attending the Saltus Grammar School, where he is now a Junior Prefect, member of the Student Council, Peer Mentor, YouthNet Peer Mentor; former member of the Philosophy and Ethics, Irish, and African-Bermudian Studies Clubs, and has played on his school’s rugby team.

“Trey has been involved in the First Church of God’s North Shore congregation since his debut as baby Jesus in the Passion play [2000], and has furthered his service to God through various ministries, including the KSC Children’s Choir, Olympian Club, and Puppeteer.

“In 2012, he was approached and asked if he would like to preach during a Youth Sunday Service at Grace Methodist Church, and upon saying yes found another calling within the church. Since then, he has spoken at many other churches spreading God’s word.

“Also in 2012, Trey began learning sign language under the direction of Mrs. Shona Henry, and later under Ms. Wendy Ingham. After his first lesson he realized his undying love for languages and to date, is learning American Sign Language, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Italian.

“Trey’s hobbies include farming, gardening, cooking, baking, and reading classic novels. From a young age, Trey has expressed his passion for animals, and cites his greatest achievement as the moment he successfully hatched his own ducklings from an incubator.

“His unwavering passion and sheer interest in science has ultimately led him to want to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Trey prides himself on the four years he spent volunteering at Wilmot’s Farm in Warwick, where he found his love for the veterinary specialty of livestock and food animal medicine.

“In the future, Trey hopes to run his own veterinary practice and become a fully certified sign language interpreter.”
