Dickinson & Zuill Appointed To Media Council

July 11, 2018

“Qian Dickinson and Carla Zuill have accepted positions to the Media Council of Bermuda,” the organisation announced, saying it is “essential to diversify the people who are part of the Working Group, that not only includes colour but age, sex and non-traditional media.”

According to their website, the Media Working Group is “effectively the executive committee of the Media Foundation” and prior to these appointments the members of the Working Group were Tony McWilliam [chairperson], Don Burgess, Jonathan Kent, and Jeremy Deacon.

The Media Working Group is separate from the general membership of the Media Council; where there are currently 22 media outlets listed as having “adopted the code of practice.”

The full statement from the Media Council follows below:

Qian Dickinson and Carla Zuill have accepted positions to the Media Council of Bermuda.

Both are joining the Media Council’s Working Group.

Executive officer Don Burgess said it is essential to diversify the people who are part of the Working Group, that not only includes colour but age, sex and non-traditional media.

“When the Media Council Working Group was formed seven years ago it was the bastion of traditional media. Time has quickly changed the media landscape since then, and it is essential that the Working Group reflect that. Both Qian and Carla have a wide variety of experience in both old and new mass communication forms and will provide valuable input to the Council. We are fortunate to have their expertise.

The Working Group does not rule on cases but is involved on other issues on behalf of the media.
