Photographer, poet and author Ras Mykkal will present a free public lecture on Bermuda’s butterflies while raising funds to support Jamaican communities affected by recent Hurricane Melissa.

Mr Mykkal will deliver Bermuda’s Flying Flowers: Everything you need to know about Bermuda’s butterflies at the Southampton Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Saturday [January 24] from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.

Admission is free, with a book sale to follow the lecture.

Proceeds from the sale of Mr Mykkal’s books will be used to fund essential humanitarian aid in Jamaica, including shelter, food, medical supplies and rebuilding efforts.

“Our goal is to provide a heartfelt initiative that combines the power of book information with the urgency of humanitarian aid,” he said.

“I am sacrificing personal gain to assist others in dire need, the proceeds of books help fund shelter, food, medical supplies, and rebuilding efforts.”

Books available include Click I Goy Yah [regular $35, now $20], Flying Flowers of Bermuda Butterfly Book [regular $35, now $20], 50 Years of Motocross in Bermuda [regular $100, now $65], or all three titles for $100 [regular $170].

The funds raised will be distributed in the Cairn Curran District of Westmoreland, Jamaica, with a focus on rebuilding a school, restoring its library building, and assisting with repairs to the homes of elderly residents in the community.

“We invite everyone to participate – buy a book, spread the word, and be part of a movement that brings hope and help to hurricane survivors,” Mr Mykkal added.
