Video: Sunday April 30th ‘Good News’ Spotlight

News that the island’s exceptional young people were honoured at the Outstanding Teen Awards, Dr. Ty-Ron Douglas’ book won a Society of Professors of Education Outstanding Book Award, the ‘Spirit of Bermuda’ won awards in Antigua, and a new self-service dog wash business opened were all some of the positive news stories from the past week.

In additional good news, the People’s Choice Art Awards were presented to students, Bermuda celebrated Earth Day with clean ups around the island, Kyle Webb won three events at the Rankin/Poehlein Invitational event, and Dage Minors set a new school record in the 800 meter event at Larry Ellis Invitational.

Other good news stories included Vanessa James and her partner Morgan Cipres winning a free skate event in Tokyo, Anne Foster being called to the Bermuda Bar, and 30lbs of lionfish being caught at a spring tournament.

In addition, American university students selected Bermuda as the domicile for the first known student-run captive insurance company, Hannover Re is offering a $15,000 scholarship for CedarBridge or Berkeley students, and a record number of girls at Saltus Grammar School are taking ICT as a GCSE.

We also posted various community photo galleries, including coverage of the CONCACAF President’s visit to Bermuda, Project Action’s High Tea, Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation Spring Jamboree, Warwick Academy’s International Day, Ahmadiyya Muslim Open Air Exhibition, Ascendant Group Employee Health Fair, Windreach Adaptive Sports Expo, as well as squash, cycling, volleyball and karting.
