Video: Sunday June 18th ‘Good News’ Spotlight
News that the Department of Health’s Freddie Lambert earned the Public Service Excellence Award for May, Patricia Pogson-Nesbitt, Clair “Brinky” Tucker, Rick Spurling, Clement Talbot, and the late Rosheena Beek were honoured at the 2023 Bermuda Arts Council Awards, arboriculture and horticulture trainees were commended, and the Bermuda Hospitals Board congratulated FIL Limited for winning its Corporate Blood Drive were all some of the positive news stories from the past week.
In additional good news, junior athletes from OpenMat Bermuda returned to the island with 15 medals won at the Grappling Industries Brooklyn BJJ GI and Noji Round-Robin Tournament, 18 swimmers competed in the Bahamas, Dennico Hollis helped Stenhousemuir pick up a win, and Stephen Dickinson and his crew Wesley Tucker won the Leon Wilson Memorial Regatta off the West End Sailboat Club.
Other good news stories included Phoenix awarding a scholarship to Brianna Correia, the Mary Prince Award being launched in the UK, winners of the ‘Bermuda Is Worth Protecting’ art contest being announced, Onion Day being held at Carter House, and Bermuda Archives holding an open house event.
In further good news, Wallpaper Wednesday featured a smiley emoji rainbow in honour of Pride Month, SPS distributed $30,000 worth of school supplies, the Thomas family won the ‘Basics Insights’ giveaway, and 17 educators completed an induction programme.
We also posted various community photo galleries, including coverage of Berkeley’s ‘Dress Code’ runway show, five people being honoured at the Arts Council Awards, the Pow Wow in St David’s, and the Youth You-Nite for Peace Walk.
