Blazers Forfeit Match For Safety Reasons

December 14, 2011

The Boulevard Blazers of the Digicel Premier Division have forfeited the Friendship Trophy competition 2011/12, pulling out of the scheduled match which was to be played in Somerset.

The Boulevard Blazers were scheduled to play Somerset Trojans in the preliminary round tonight [Dec.14] at Somerset Cricket Club. This now means Somerset Trojans will advance to the next round of the competition due to the Boulevard Blazers withdrawal.

Meanwhile, the Shield competition match featuring Somerset Eagles vs. Young Men’s Social Club scheduled to be played at Somerset Cricket Club will now kick-off 8pm. The game was originally scheduled for 7pm Wednesday, December 14, 2011.

Dr Lou Matthews, President of Boulevard said, “The Boulevard Community Club is committed to impacting the lives of young men and women through football. We do this by emphasizing for our players: leadership, positive living and safety.

“In light of the current issues that continue to disrupt our neighborhoods, we decided it was in the best interest of our players to not to play the Friendship game scheduled for Wednesday night. This was communicated to the BFA in writing.”

Dr Matthews concluded, “Despite this, we remain committed to our work in Central Pembroke as we have for the past 37 years. We thank the BFA for it hard work in preparation for the tournament. We wish the Somerset Trojans the best.”

  1. Sad, sad Bermuda says:

It is sad times that we live in when a game called the “Friendship” match can’t be played because of the violence on our island.

    Sad times indeed.

So now soccer matches are being disrupted because of this tit-for-tat nonsense. Boot all the gangbangers off your football teams if you are so concerned. (comments are satirical)

If Dr Matthews considers the advice of his team to be valid surely this information should be provided to the BPS so that more information can be gathered on these hoodlums who are holding the country hostage…but in usual fashion, Bermudians won’t challenge this new status quo…oh no…

if a team is unable to play certain games within a 21 square mile island then they should not be in the league.
