News that BF&M hosted a successful Toys for Tots drive, Olympic swimmer Roy-Allan Burch will be inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame, Ashjuana Thomas earned the Public Service Excellence Award, and Bacardi distributed more than 250 totes filled with food and grocery vouchers to Bermuda bartenders were all some of the positive news stories from the past week.
Additional good news stories included Bermuda having three new FIFA Assistant Referees – Natasha Trott is the first Bermudian female to be appointed to the FIFA list, along with Stefan Maybury and Clinton Hayward – Nathan Simmons set a new school record, and Vanessa James and Eric Radford won the pairs free skate.
In additional good news, students made 100 cards and a poster for BHB, Keith Robinson was awarded the STEP Founder’s Award, BILTIR presented 750 books to 27 schools, BELCO announced that 15 Bermudians joined their Apprenticeship Programme, BCHC’s Radiation Therapy Unit earned accreditation, Sun Life donated $70K to charities in Bermuda, volunteer Jennifer Simpson received royal recognition, Cathy Gurret Lama placed third in the 70.3 Ironman, and Saundre “Dash” Simons placed second in the US Championships.
